Hypermetabolism and hypercatabolism of skeletal muscle accompany mitochondrial stress following severe burn trauma
John O. Ogunbileje,Craig Porter,David N. Herndon,Tony Chao,Doaa Reda Abdelrahman,Doaa Reda Abdelrahman,Anastasia Papadimitriou,Maria Chondronikola,Teresa A. Zimmers,Paul T. Reidy,Blake B. Rasmussen,Labros S. Sidossis +11 more
TL;DR: It is found that burn patients were profoundly hypermetabolic at both the skeletal muscle and systemic levels, indicating increased oxygen consumption by mitochondria and a novel role for the mitochondria in burn-induced cachexia.
Hypermetabolism and hypercatabolism of skeletal muscle accompany mitochondrial stress following severe burn trauma
John O. Ogunbileje,Craig Porter,David N. Herndon,Tony Chao,Doaa Reda Abdelrahman,Doaa Reda Abdelrahman,Anastasia Papadimitriou,Maria Chondronikola,Teresa A. Zimmers,Paul T. Reidy,Blake B. Rasmussen,Labros S. Sidossis +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors hypothesized that hypermetabolism contributes to muscle wasting in burn patients and hypothesized that oxidative enzymes are involved in the muscle wasting, but their hypothesis was not validated.

Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet and Successful aging in Greeks living in Greece and abroad: the epidemiological Mediterranean Islands Study (MEDIS)
Anastasia Papadimitriou,Alexandra Foscolou,Catherine Itsiopoulos,Antonia Thodis,Antigone Kouris-Blazos,Laima Brazionis,Amalia Sidossis,Evangelos Polychronopoulos,Peter Kokkinos,Demosthenes B. Panagiotakos,Labros S. Sidossis +10 more
TL;DR: Adherence to the MD is associated with higher levels of successful aging among people of the same genetic background living in different environments, however, traditional dietary habits are gradually abandoned in their native countries, when, at the same time, are considered cultural heritage and preserved accordingly among immigrants.
