Holocene climate variability, vegetation dynamics and fire regime in the central Pyrenees: The Basa de la Mora sequence (NE Spain)

TL;DR: In this article, a robust age model based on 15 AMS radiocarbon dates underpins the first precise reconstruction of rapid climate changes during the Holocene from this area, using high resolution multiproxy data (pollen, sedimentology, geochemistry, chironomids and charcoal).
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrological change in Southern Europe responding to increasing North Atlantic overturning during Greenland Stadial 1

TL;DR: The findings point to the resumption of the Atlantic overturning circulation as the main mechanism behind the hydrological response in Europe during this mid–GS-1 transition and highlight the complex regional signature of GS-1, very distinctive from previous stadial events.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of biological soil crust cover in bioweathering and protection of sandstones in a semi‐arid landscape (Torrollones de Gabarda, Huesca, Spain)

TL;DR: In this paper, the biological soil crust of lichens, mosses and cyanobacteria was studied by using scanning electron microscopy with backscattered detector imaging, and showed high activity in the sandstone-crust interface, which may cause the occurrence of gnammas and the development of a protective coating that favours intense taking when the crust is disturbed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Middle-to-late Holocene palaeoenvironmental reconstruction from the A294 ice-cave record (Central Pyrenees, northern Spain)

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a pioneer palaeoenvironmental study of an ice deposit preserved in a small sag-type cave (A294) in the Central Pyrenees (northern Iberian Peninsula).
