Journal ArticleDOI
Expected trends and surprises in the Lateglacial and Holocene vegetation history of the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands.
José S. Carrión,Santiago Fernández,Penélope González-Sampériz,Graciela Gil-Romera,Ernestina Badal,Yolanda Carrión-Marco,Lourdes López-Merino,José Antonio López-Sáez,Elena Fierro,Francesc Burjachs +9 more
TL;DR: In addition to the influence of Lateglacial and Early Holocene climatic changes, other factors are critical in the course of vegetation development and observe strong regional differences as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate variability in the Spanish Pyrenees during the last 30,000 yr revealed by the El Portalet sequence
Penélope González-Sampériz,Blas L. Valero-Garcés,Ana Moreno,G. Jalut,José María García-Ruiz,C. Martí-Bono,Antonio Delgado-Huertas,Ana Navas,Thierry Otto,Jean-Jacques Dedoubat +9 more
TL;DR: Palynological, sedimentological and stable isotopic analyses of carbonates and organic matter performed on the El Portalet sequence (1802m a.s.l., 42°48′00ʺN, 0°23′52ʺW) reflect the paleoclimatic evolution and vegetation history in the central-western Spanish Pyrenees over the last 30,000 yr, and provide a high-resolution record for the late glacial period as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Medieval Climate Anomaly in the Iberian Peninsula reconstructed from marine and lake records
Ana Moreno,Ana Beatriz Alvarez Perez,Jaime Frigola,Vanesa Nieto-Moreno,Marta Rodrigo-Gámiz,Belen Martrat,Penélope González-Sampériz,Mario Morellón,Celia Martín-Puertas,Juan Pablo Corella,Juan Pablo Corella,Ánchel Belmonte,Carlos Sancho,Isabel Cacho,Gemma Herrera,Miquel Canals,Joan O. Grimalt,Francisco J. Jiménez-Espejo,Francisca Martínez-Ruiz,Teresa Vegas-Vilarrúbia,Blas L. Valero-Garcés +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a comprehensive regional paleoclimate reconstruction for the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA: 900-1300 AD) in the Mediterranean IP using multi-proxy and accurately dated marine and terrestrial records covering the past 2000 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Steppes, savannahs, forests and phytodiversity reservoirs during the Pleistocene in the Iberian Peninsula
Penélope González-Sampériz,Suzanne A.G. Leroy,José S. Carrión,Santiago Fernández,Mercedes García-Antón,María José Gil-García,Paloma Uzquiano,Blas L. Valero-Garcés,Isabel Figueiral +8 more
TL;DR: A palaeobotanical analysis of the Pleistocene floras and vegetation in the Iberian Peninsula shows the existence of patched landscapes with Pinus woodlands, deciduous and mixed forests, parklands (savannah-like), shrublands, steppes and grasslands as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Holocene environmental change in a montane region of southern Europe with a long history of human settlement
José S. Carrión,Noemí Fuentes,Penélope González-Sampériz,L. Sánchez Quirante,J.C. Finlayson,Santiago Fernández,A. Andrade +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a palynological sequence was used to examine the Holocene (8390-160 cal yr BP) environmental history of the Sierra de Baza (Granada, southeastern Spain) with the goal of establishing the mechanisms exerting control over vegetation change.
