Journal ArticleDOI

The third gas: H2S regulates perfusion pressure in both the isolated and perfused normal rat liver and in cirrhosis

TL;DR: In conclusion, CSE‐derived H2S is involved in the maintenance of portal venous pressure and the reduction of CSE expression in the liver with cirrhosis contributes to the development of increased intrahepatic resistance and portal hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Bile Acid Receptor FXR Is a Modulator of Intestinal Innate Immunity

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that FXR is expressed by and exerts counterregulatory effects on cells of innate immunity and regulates inflammation in animal models of colitis, and that in vivo treatment with INT-747 attenuates organ injury and immune cell activation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The nuclear receptor SHP mediates inhibition of hepatic stellate cells by FXR and protects against liver fibrosis

TL;DR: It is established that FXR ligands might represent a novel therapeutic option to treat liver fibrosis and that SHP binds JunD and inhibits DNA binding of adaptor protein (AP)-1 induced by thrombin.
Journal ArticleDOI

FXR activation reverses insulin resistance and lipid abnormalities and protects against liver steatosis in Zucker (fa/fa) obese rats

TL;DR: Assessment of the effect of FXR activation by 6-ethyl-chenodeoxycholic acid, (6E-CDCA, 10 mg/kg) on insulin resistance and liver and muscle lipid metabolism in fa/fa rats and compared its activity with rosiglitazone found it to be protective against body weight gain, correct lipid metabolism abnormalities in an obesity animal model.
