A Definition and Classification of Status epilepticus--Report of the ILAE Task Force on Classification of Status Epilepticus
Eugen Trinka,Hannah R. Cock,Dale C. Hesdorffer,Andrea O. Rossetti,Ingrid E. Scheffer,Shlomo Shinnar,Simon Shorvon,Daniel H. Lowenstein +7 more
TL;DR: A new diagnostic classification system of SE is proposed, which will provide a framework for clinical diagnosis, investigation, and therapeutic approaches for each patient, and it is proposed that this system should be divided into subcategories of known and unknown causes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Human K-Complex Represents an Isolated Cortical Down-State
Sydney S. Cash,Eric Halgren,Nima Dehghani,Andrea O. Rossetti,Thomas Thesen,Chunmao Wang,Orrin Devinsky,Ruben Kuzniecky,Werner Doyle,Joseph R. Madsen,Edward B. Bromfield,Loránd Erőss,Péter Halász,George Karmos,George Karmos,Richard Csercsa,Lucia Wittner,István Ulbert,István Ulbert +18 more
TL;DR: It is shown that KCs are generated in widespread cortical areas by outward dendritic currents in the middle and upper cortical layers, accompanied by decreased broadband EEG power and decreased neuronal firing, which demonstrate a steep decline in network activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Refractory status epilepticus: a prospective observational study.
TL;DR: A condition that is resistant to two antiepileptic compounds is defined as refractory status epilepticus (RSE), and prospectively assessed RSE frequency, clinical predictors, and outcome in a tertiary clinical setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognosis of status epilepticus: role of aetiology, age, and consciousness impairment at presentation
TL;DR: Surviving a first SE episode could lower the mortality and morbidity of subsequent episodes, suggesting that underlying aetiology, rather than SE per se, is the major determinant of outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Refractory status epilepticus : Effect of treatment aggressiveness on prognosis
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of antiepileptic drugs for coma induction in refractory status epilepticus (RSE) and found that patients with RSE were more likely to return to functional baseline than patients with non-RSE.
