Journal ArticleDOI
Mental health interventions and priorities for research for adult survivors of torture and systematic violence: a review of the literature.
William Weiss,Ana M. Ugueto,Zayan Mahmooth,Laura K. Murray,Brian J. Hall,Maya Nadison,Andrew Rasmussen,Jennifer S. Lee,Andrea Vazzano,Judy Bass,Paul Bolton +10 more
TL;DR: Recommendations for interventions that demonstrate effectiveness in treating survivors of torture and other systematic violence who suffer from PTSD, depression and anxiety are included.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cost and Impact of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision in South Africa: Focusing the Program on Specific Age Groups and Provinces.
Katharine Kripke,Ping-An Chen,Andrea Vazzano,Ananthy Thambinayagam,Yogan Pillay,Dayanund Loykissoonlal,Collen Bonnecwe,Peter Barron,Eva Kiwango,Delivette Castor,Emmanuel Njeuhmeli +10 more
TL;DR: The model showed that circumcising men ages 20–34 offers the most immediate impact on HIV incidence and requires the fewest circumcisions per HIV infection averted, while differences in the VMMC program’s cost-effectiveness across provinces were obscured by uncertainty in HIV incidence projections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using mathematical modeling to inform health policy: A case study from voluntary medical male circumcision scale-up in eastern and southern Africa and proposed framework for success.
Emmanuel Njeuhmeli,Melissa Schnure,Andrea Vazzano,Elizabeth S. Gold,Peter Stegman,Katharine Kripke,Michel Tchuenche,Lori Bollinger,Steven Forsythe,Catherine Hankins +9 more
TL;DR: The barriers and enabling factors that can allow models to better inform health decision-making are examined, as well as the ways in which modeling has informed VMMC programs and policy may be applicable to an array of other health interventions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stigma, discrimination and HIV outcomes among people living with HIV in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: The intersection of multiple social inequalities
TL;DR: Findings suggest that future interventions should address multiple social inequalities faced by PLHIV to reduce HIV stigma and discrimination and improve health and HIV outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling the Impact of Uganda's Safe Male Circumcision Program: Implications for Age and Regional Targeting.
Katharine Kripke,Andrea Vazzano,William Kirungi,Joshua Musinguzi,Alex Opio,Rhobbinah Ssempebwa,Susan Nakawunde,Sheila Kyobutungi,Juliet N. Akao,Fred Magala,George Mwidu,Delivette Castor,Emmanuel Njeuhmeli +12 more
TL;DR: Focusing SMC efforts on specific age groups and regions may help to accelerate Uganda’s SMC program progress, and policy makers in Uganda should consider a greater effort to expand SMC in regions with low MC prevalence.
