Testing Standard and Modular Designs for Psychotherapy Treating Depression, Anxiety, and Conduct Problems in Youth: A Randomized Effectiveness Trial
John R. Weisz,Bruce F. Chorpita,Lawrence A. Palinkas,Sonia K. Schoenwald,Jeanne Miranda,Sarah Kate Bearman,Eric L. Daleiden,Ana M. Ugueto,Anya Ho,Jacqueline Lee Martin,Jane Gray,Alisha Alleyne,David A. Langer,Michael A. Southam-Gerow,Robert D. Gibbons +14 more
TL;DR: The modular approach may be a promising way to build on the strengths of evidence-based treatments, improving their utility and effectiveness with referred youths in clinical practice settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
What five decades of research tells us about the effects of youth psychological therapy: A multilevel meta-analysis and implications for science and practice.
John R. Weisz,Sofie Kuppens,Mei Yi Ng,Dikla Eckshtain,Ana M. Ugueto,Rachel A. Vaughn-Coaxum,Amanda Jensen-Doss,Kristin M. Hawley,Lauren Krumholz Marchette,Brian C. Chu,V. Robin Weersing,Samantha R. Fordwood +11 more
TL;DR: Overall effect size (ES) and moderator effects were assessed using multilevel modeling to address ES dependency that is common, but typically not modeled, in meta-analyses, and only youth-focused behavioral therapies showed similar and robust effects across youth, parent, and teacher reports.
Journal ArticleDOI
Performance of evidence-based youth psychotherapies compared with usual clinical care: a multilevel meta-analysis.
John R. Weisz,Sofie Kuppens,Dikla Eckshtain,Ana M. Ugueto,Kristin M. Hawley,Amanda Jensen-Doss +5 more
TL;DR: Evidence-based psychotherapies outperform usual care, but the EBP advantage is modest and moderated by youth, location, and assessment characteristics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Youth Top Problems: using idiographic, consumer-guided assessment to identify treatment needs and to track change during psychotherapy.
John R. Weisz,Bruce F. Chorpita,Alice Frye,Mei Yi Ng,Nancy Lau,Sarah Kate Bearman,Ana M. Ugueto,David A. Langer,Kimberly Hoagwood +8 more
TL;DR: The Top Problems measure appears to be a psychometrically sound, client-guided approach that complements empirically derived standardized assessment that can help focus attention and treatment planning on the problems that youths and caregivers consider most important and can generate evidence on trajectories of change in those problems during treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
A transdiagnostic community-based mental health treatment for comorbid disorders: development and outcomes of a randomized controlled trial among Burmese refugees in Thailand.
Paul Bolton,Catherine Lee,Emily E. Haroz,Laura K. Murray,Shannon Dorsey,Courtland Robinson,Ana M. Ugueto,Judith K. Bass +7 more
TL;DR: In a randomized controlled trial, Paul Bolton and colleagues investigate whether a transdiagnostic community-based intervention is effective for improving mental health symptoms among Burmese refugees in Thailand.
