Lower-limb muscle function is influenced by changing mechanical demands in cycling.
Adrian K. M. Lai,Taylor J. M. Dick,Nicholas A. T. Brown,Andrew A. Biewener,James M. Wakeling +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of lower-limb muscles in the performance of cycling was investigated and it was found that higher crank torque induced muscle activation, greater positive muscle-tendon unit (MTU) work and a more motor-like function in the limb extensors.

Getting to grips with how birds land stably on complex surfaces
TL;DR: Force measurements and video-footage analysis now reveal that birds rely on rapid and robust adjustments of their toe pads and claws to land stably.

Evolutionary race as predators hunt prey
TL;DR: Remote-sensing data for wild animals such as lions reveal that predators and prey optimize manoeuvrability rather than speed during the hunt.
