Journal ArticleDOI
The Use of Computed Tomography in Pediatrics and the Associated Radiation Exposure and Estimated Cancer Risk
Diana L. Miglioretti,Diana L. Miglioretti,Eric Johnson,Andrew E. Williams,Robert T. Greenlee,Sheila Weinmann,Leif I. Solberg,Heather Spencer Feigelson,Douglas W. Roblin,Michael J. Flynn,Nicholas Vanneman,Rebecca Smith-Bindman +11 more
TL;DR: The increased use of CT in pediatrics, combined with the wide variability in radiation doses, has resulted in many children receiving a high-dose examination, and dose-reduction strategies targeted to the highest quartile of doses could dramatically reduce the number of radiation-induced cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of Diagnostic Imaging Studies and Associated Radiation Exposure for Patients Enrolled in Large Integrated Health Care Systems, 1996-2010
Rebecca Smith-Bindman,Diana L. Miglioretti,Eric Johnson,Choonsik Lee,Heather Spencer Feigelson,Michael J. Flynn,Robert T. Greenlee,Randell Kruger,Mark C. Hornbrook,Douglas W. Roblin,Leif I. Solberg,Nicholas Vanneman,Sheila Weinmann,Andrew E. Williams +13 more
TL;DR: There was a large increase in the rate of advanced diagnostic imaging and associated radiation exposure within integrated health care systems between 1996 and 2010 and the adoption of different modalities for anatomic area assessment varied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Screening Colonoscopy and Risk for Incident Late-Stage Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis in Average-Risk Adults: A Nested Case–Control Study
Chyke A. Doubeni,Sheila Weinmann,Kenneth Adams,Aruna Kamineni,Diana S. M. Buist,Arlene S. Ash,Carolyn M. Rutter,V. Paul Doria-Rose,Douglas A. Corley,Robert T. Greenlee,Jessica Chubak,Andrew E. Williams,Aimee R. Kroll-Desrosiers,Eric Johnson,Joseph Webster,Kathryn Richert-Boe,Theodore R. Levin,Robert H. Fletcher,Noel S. Weiss +18 more
TL;DR: Screening with colonoscopy in average-risk persons was associated with reduced risk for diagnosis of incident late-stage CRC, including right-sided colon cancer, and for sigmoidoscopy, this association was seen for left CRC, but the association for right colonLate-stage cancer was not statistically significant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Does "fight or flight" need updating?
TL;DR: The phrase " fight or flight " has influenced the understanding and expectations of both clinicians and patients; however, both the order and the completeness of Cannon's famous phrase are suspect.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Association Between Health Literacy and Cancer-Related Attitudes, Behaviors, and Knowledge
Nancy S. Morris,Terry S. Field,Joann L. Wagner,Sarah L. Cutrona,Douglas W. Roblin,Bridget Gaglio,Andrew E. Williams,Paul J. K. Han,Mary E. Costanza,Kathleen M. Mazor +9 more
TL;DR: In these insured subjects receiving care in integrated health care delivery systems, those with low health literacy were less likely to be up to date on screening for colorectal cancer, but the difference was not statistically significant.
