The Use of Computed Tomography in Pediatrics and the Associated Radiation Exposure and Estimated Cancer Risk
Diana L. Miglioretti,Diana L. Miglioretti,Eric Johnson,Andrew E. Williams,Robert T. Greenlee,Sheila Weinmann,Leif I. Solberg,Heather Spencer Feigelson,Douglas W. Roblin,Michael J. Flynn,Nicholas Vanneman,Rebecca Smith-Bindman +11 more
TL;DR: The increased use of CT in pediatrics, combined with the wide variability in radiation doses, has resulted in many children receiving a high-dose examination, and dose-reduction strategies targeted to the highest quartile of doses could dramatically reduce the number of radiation-induced cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI
A conceptual model of emergency department crowding
Brent R. Asplin,David J. Magid,Karin V. Rhodes,Leif I. Solberg,Nicole Lurie,Carlos A. Camargo +5 more
TL;DR: The goal of the conceptual model is to provide a practical framework on which an organized research, policy, and operations management agenda can be based to alleviate ED crowding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of Diagnostic Imaging Studies and Associated Radiation Exposure for Patients Enrolled in Large Integrated Health Care Systems, 1996-2010
Rebecca Smith-Bindman,Diana L. Miglioretti,Eric Johnson,Choonsik Lee,Heather Spencer Feigelson,Michael J. Flynn,Robert T. Greenlee,Randell Kruger,Mark C. Hornbrook,Douglas W. Roblin,Leif I. Solberg,Nicholas Vanneman,Sheila Weinmann,Andrew E. Williams +13 more
TL;DR: There was a large increase in the rate of advanced diagnostic imaging and associated radiation exposure within integrated health care systems between 1996 and 2010 and the adoption of different modalities for anatomic area assessment varied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Priorities Among Effective Clinical Preventive Services : Results of a Systematic Review and Analysis
Michael V. Maciosek,Ashley B. Coffield,Nichol M. Edwards,Thomas J. Flottemesch,Michael J. Goodman,Leif I. Solberg +5 more
TL;DR: This study identifies the most valuable clinical preventive services that can be offered in medical practice and should help decision-makers select which services to emphasize.
Journal ArticleDOI
Does the Chronic Care Model Serve Also as a Template for Improving Prevention
TL;DR: An evidenced-based model of chronic-illness management is shown to apply equally to preventive interventions and successful examples of prevention programs in cancer screening and counseling for health behavior change illustrate the utility of the model.
