Journal ArticleDOI

Noncoding sequences from the slowly evolving chloroplast inverted repeat in addition to rbcL data do not support gnetalean affinities of angiosperms.

TL;DR: Results of phylogenetic analyses provide very strong bootstrap support for monophyly of both spermatophytes and angiosperms and for a basal position for the aquatic angiosperm Nymphaea among angios perms studied was observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Complete Sequence of the Duckweed ( Lemna minor ) Chloroplast Genome: Structural Organization and Phylogenetic Relationships to Other Angiosperms

TL;DR: The phylogenetic analyses of 61 protein-coding genes from 38 plastid genome sequences provided strong support for the monophyly ofmonocots and position of Lemna as the next diverging lineage of monocots after Acorales, and provided support for Amborella as a sister to all other angiosperms, but in the bayesian phylogeny inference.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gnetum and the Angiosperms: Molecular Evidence that Their Shared Morphological Characters Are Convergent, Rather than Homologous

TL;DR: It is surprising that in two recent studies encompassing representatives from all three gnetalean genera and from all contemporary gymnosperm groups, the Gnetales showed a tendency to cluster with conifers rather than with angiosperms, which is quite inconsistent with the expectations crisply formulated from the anthophyte theory.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phylogeny of the genus Lotus (Leguminosae, Loteae): evidence from nrITS sequences and morphology

TL;DR: Adding morphological data to the nrITS matrix produces a better resolved phylogeny of Lotus, and previous findings that Dorycnium and Tetragonolobus cannot be separated from Lotus at the generic level are well supported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular Data from the Chloroplast rpoC1 Gene Suggest a Deep and Distinct Dichotomy of Contemporary Spermatophytes into Two Monophyla: Gymnosperms (Including Gnetales) and Angiosperms

TL;DR: The hypothesis that angiosperms and gymnosperms are monophyletic and none of the recent groups of the latter is sister to angios perms is supported.
