ABSTRACT The emergence of Augmented Reality (AR) enriched and further enhanced the tourism experience. Drawn upon presence theory and a postmodernist perspective, this study rethinks the impact of postmodern authenticity on two different types of presences (Sense of Presence and Telepresence) and hence on visitor satisfaction and travel intention, by focusing on AR-based World Cultural Heritage Site – Mount Tai, China. Data were collected from 225 respondents visiting AR-based Mount Tai. Results demonstrated that postmodern authenticity positively predicts presences, satisfaction, and travel intention, and Postmodern authenticity has a more substantial effect on the Sense of Presence. Moreover, both types of presence positively predict satisfaction, hence travel intention while Sense of Presence has a stronger effect. Theoretical and managerial implications are presented.

Rethinking the consequences of postmodern authenticity: the case of a World Cultural Heritage in Augmented Reality

In the age of digitalization, travel applications (or travel apps) are indispensable tools for modern travel activities. During an app's selection and adoption phases, privacy concerns remain a sensitive issue that may demotivate users’ from continuing to use it. This study integrated both the stimulus-organism-response model (S-O-R) and psychological reaction theory (PRT) to explore the factors that influence users’ app usage experiences and behavioral responses. A self-administered questionnaire was designed and distributed to Gen Y users in mainland China. The findings of PLS-SEM analysis showed that usage intentions are predicted by the ability of travel apps to engage with users and generate favorable values. Additionally, users with low privacy concerns were shown to have a stronger intention to recommend travel apps to others. All in all, the findings from this study offer valuable insights to tourism providers and app developers.

Possibilities of using new technologies in cultural tourism in the post covid era

E-commerce has experienced tremendous growth in recent years, and with the rapid adoption of the internet, this industry, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), has gained access to the global market. However, reaching consumers with different cultures may not be straightforward, as consumers may react differently to the same service. Knowing how to effectively communicate with consumers is crucial for generating revenue. Therefore, simply translating a website is not a solution and may create a negative impression among consumers, particularly since cultural thinking differs significantly between Western and Eastern countries. This research aims to confirm the existing literature that suggests western consumers are different from eastern ones. To do this, the structures of 90 e-commerce enterprises in Canada and China were compared. This study used Python to compare CA and CN e-commerce websites and investigate the impact of culture on their website design. The model analyzed 90 websites and was able to clearly demonstrate the distinct designs of the websites. 

Exploring the Influence of Culture on Website Design in Canadian and Chinese E-Commerce

Using technology in education facilitates knowledge dissemination expediently while broadening and deepening learning modes and content diversity. As an information technological innovation, E-learning platform is widely used to learn college English. However, few studies have explored the motivations for students’ e-satisfaction and continued intention towards using it for college English study. Based on the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2), this study identifies the influencing factors for the continued usage intention and tests the mediating role of e-satisfaction and habit. Six hundred and twenty-six usable responses from Guangxi were analyzed with partial least squares structural equation modelling. Results show that performance expectancy, learning value, hedonic motivation and habit positively affects students’ continued usage intention, e-satisfaction positively mediates the relationship between the antecedents and continued usage intention, and habit positively mediates the relationship between e-satisfaction and continued usage intention. The research provides guidelines for the successful implementation of e-learning platform for college English study and key references for improvement of students’ engagement and satisfaction experience with using e-learning platform for college English study.
