The reproductive dynamics of temperate amphibians: a review

TL;DR: The aim of this review is to summarize some major findings of the main research directions regarding the reproductive dynamics of temperate (and especially European) amphibians.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fine-scale population genetic structure and sex-biased dispersal in the smooth snake ( Coronella austriaca ) in southern England

TL;DR: It is suggested that the fine-scale spatial genetic structuring and sex-biased dispersal have important implications for the conservation of C. austriaca, and the value of heathland areas within commercial conifer plantations with regards to their future management is highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemoreception and kin discrimination by neonate smooth snakes, Coronella austriaca

TL;DR: The apparent ability of smooth snake neonates to differentiate between kin and nonkin using chemoreception was confirmed during ‘blind’ trials and the mechanism by which kin discrimination occurs is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Brain food?: Trophic transfer and tissue retention of microplastics by the velvet swimming crab (Necora puber)

TL;DR: This study is the first to demonstrate the presence of microplastics in the brain of any crustacean species, and has possible implications for a range of behaviours including predator avoidance, foraging and reproduction.
