Journal ArticleDOI

Psychobiological impact of a progressive weight loss program in obese men.

TL;DR: The results suggest that a substantial improvement in the psychobiological profile occurs with a 5-kg weight loss but that with additional weight loss (Phase 2) a small, but significant increase in depression occurred and seems to be associated with the increase in rigid restraint of eating.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insufficient Sleep as a Contributor to Weight Gain: An Update

TL;DR: The preponderance of the evidence supports taking a pragmatic approach and encouraging a good night’s sleep as an adjunct to other health promotion measures and preliminary results by the research group lend support to the effect that increasing sleeping time in short-duration sleepers has the potential to limit adiposity gain over time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physical training and changes in regional adipose tissue distribution.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the sex dimorphism observed in adipose tissue localization could partly explain the greater cardiovascular risk associated with obesity in men than in women, and those with a "male" distribution of adiposity and with associated metabolic complications greatly benefit from aerobic exercise-training.
Journal ArticleDOI

Findings from the Quebec Family Study on the Etiology of Obesity: Genetics and Environmental Highlights

TL;DR: The Quebec Family Study cohort was used to investigate the contribution of familial resemblance and genetic effects on body fatness and behaviors related to energy balance, and an important finding relates to the interactions between dietary macronutrient intake and exercise intensity on body mass and adiposity.
Journal Article

Relation of high plasma triglyceride levels associated with obesity and regional adipose tissue distribution to plasma lipoprotein-lipid composition in premenopausal women.

TL;DR: The importance of plasma VLDL-TG level as a correlate of plasma LDL and HDL lipid composition in abdominal obesity is emphasized, as adjustment for fat mass or for the WHR failed to eliminate the associations between plasma V LDL- TG levels and lipoprotein lipid composition.
