Journal ArticleDOI

Cell cycle regulation.

TL;DR: Drosophila researchers met in sunny San Diego for the 49th annual meeting of The Genetics Society of America and searched out and covered talks and posters in ‘Cell Division and Growth Control’, ‘Gametogenesis’.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ionizing radiation induces caspase-dependent but Chk2- and p53-independent cell death in Drosophila melanogaster

TL;DR: It is shown that IR-induced apoptosis still occurs in the imaginal discs of chk2 and p53 mutant larvae, albeit with a delay, and it is concluded that Drosophila has Chk2- and p 53-independent pathways to activate caspases and induce apoptosis in response to IR.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modulation of ionizing radiation-induced apoptosis by bantam microRNA in Drosophila.

TL;DR: It is reported here that ban is needed to limit IR-induced apoptosis in larval imaginal discs and this is the first report that a miRNA is functionally important for radiation responses.
Journal ArticleDOI

E2F1 and E2F2 have opposite effects on radiation-induced p53-independent apoptosis in Drosophila.

TL;DR: P53-dependent and p53-independent apoptoses show differential reliance on E2F activity in Drosophila, and dE2F1 promotes IR-induced p 53- independent apoptosis in larval imaginal discs.
