Journal ArticleDOI
Semiannual surveillance is superior to annual surveillance for the detection of early hepatocellular carcinoma and patient survival.
V. Santi,Franco Trevisani,Annagiulia Gramenzi,Alice Grignaschi,Federica Mirici-Cappa,Paolo Poggio,Maria Anna Di Nolfo,Luisa Benvegnù,Fabio Farinati,Marco Zoli,Edoardo G. Giannini,Franco Borzio,Eugenio Caturelli,Maria Chiaramonte,Mauro Bernardi +14 more
TL;DR: Semiannual surveillance increases the detection rate of very early hepatocellular carcinomas and reduces the number of advanced tumors as compared to the annual program, which translates into a greater applicability of effective treatments and into a better prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution of hepatitis B virus polymerase gene mutations in hepatitis B e Antigen–negative patients receiving lamivudine therapy
Anna S.F. Lok,Munira Hussain,Carmela Cursano,Marzia Margotti,Annagiulia Gramenzi,Gian Luca Grazi,Elio Jovine,Mauro Benardi,Pietro Andreone +8 more
TL;DR: It was found that lamivudine‐resistant mutants were detected at similar rates in patients with HBeAg‐negative as in Patients with H beAg‐positive chronic hepatitis B, suggesting that additional changes in other parts of the HBV genome may restore the replication fitness of lamivUDine‐ resistant mutants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between certain foods and risk of acute myocardial infarction in women.
TL;DR: The frequency of consumption of a few simple foods may provide useful indicators of the risk of myocardial infarction and specific foods such as fish, alcohol, or vegetables and fruits may have an independent protective role in therisk of cardiovascular diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Review article: alcoholic liver disease--pathophysiological aspects and risk factors.
Annagiulia Gramenzi,Fabio Caputo,Maurizio Biselli,F. Kuria,Elisabetta Loggi,Pietro Andreone,Mauro Bernardi +6 more
TL;DR: Alcoholic liver disease has a known aetiology but a complex and incompletely known pathogenesis, but the reason why only a relatively small proportion of heavy drinkers progress to advanced disease remains elusive.
Journal ArticleDOI
Treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma in elderly patients are as effective as in younger patients: a 20-year multicentre experience
Federica Mirici-Cappa,Annagiulia Gramenzi,V. Santi,Andrea Zambruni,Antonio Di Micoli,Marta Frigerio,Francesca Maraldi,Maria Anna Di Nolfo,Paolo Poggio,Luisa Benvegnù,Gianludovico Rapaccini,Fabio Farinati,Marco Zoli,Franco Borzio,Edoardo G. Giannini,Eugenio Caturelli,Mauro Bernardi,Franco Trevisani +17 more
TL;DR: The overall applicability of radical or effective HCC treatments was unaffected by old age, however, treatment distribution differed, elderly individuals being more frequently treated with percutaneous procedures and less frequently with resection or TACE.
