The Relationship of Reduced Peripheral Nerve Function and Diabetes With Physical Performance in Older White and Black Adults: The Health, Aging, and Body Composition (Health ABC) Study

TL;DR: Poor peripheral nerve function accounts for a portion of worse physical performance in diabetes and may be directly associated withPhysical performance in older diabetic and nondiabetic adults.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevention Conference VI: Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease: Writing Group III: risk assessment in persons with diabetes.

TL;DR: Current data and recommendations for risk assessment of CVD in persons with diabetes are discussed and noninvasive testing for risk stratification among patients with diabetes would do little to change clinical management of risk factors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kidney Function and Prevalent and Incident Frailty

TL;DR: In community-dwelling elders, lower GFR (eGFR) was associated with a higher risk of prevalent and incident frailty whereas lower eGFR(SCr) was not; these findings highlight the importance of considering non-GFR determinants of kidney function.
Journal ArticleDOI

Education and the cognitive decline associated with MRI-defined brain infarct

TL;DR: Education seems to modify an individual's decline on a test of general cognitive function when there is incident brain infarct, consistent with the hypothesis that cognitive reserve influences the impact of vascular injury in the brain.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relationship Between Coronary Artery Calcification and Other Measures of Subclinical Cardiovascular Disease in Older Adults

TL;DR: In these community-dwelling older adults without clinical CVD, internal carotid artery intima-media thickness was most closely related to CAC, however, 17.5% of those with a CAC≥400 would be missed in the ascertainment of subclinical atherosclerosis using the previously published composite of sub Clinical Atherosclerosis.
