Aortic stiffness is associated with aortic and coronary calcification in older adults

TL;DR: Aortic stiffness increases with age and blood pressure, even when the population prevalence of atherosclerosis is low, and CCS was higher for men than women than women, and the distributions of PWV and ACS were log-transformed when used as continuous variables.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Association between Frailty and Dementia-Free and Physical Disability-Free Survival in Community-Dwelling Older Adults

TL;DR: In this paper , a post hoc analysis of 19,114 community-dwelling older adults (median age: 74.0 years, interquartile range or IQR: 6.1 years) from Australia and the USA enrolled in the ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE) clinical trial was performed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of Associations of Growth Differentiation Factor-11, Growth Differentiation Factor-8 and their Binding Proteins Follistatin and Follistatin-like protein-3 with Dementia and Cognition.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors assessed growth differentiation factor (GDF)-11 and GDF-8 using mass spectrometry and inhibitors FSTL-3 with ELISA in in the Cardiovascular Health Study (N=1506) and the Health ABC study (n=1237) and found that FST-3 was associated with poorer cognitive function, greater white matter hyperintensities and atrophy on MRI as well as with incident dementia with an adjusted HR of 1.72 (95% CI=1.13, 2.61) per doubling of FSTl-3.
