Hyperosmolar Coma: Cellular Dehydration and the Serum Sodium Concentration

TL;DR: Excerpt Nonketotic hyperosmolar coma is a syndrome found mostly in diabetic patients with marked hyperglycemia; the relative pathogenetic roles of hyper glycemia, hyperosmolality, and cellular roles are studied.
Journal Article

Periarticular tumoral calcinosis and hypercalcemia in a hemodialysis patient without hyperparathyroidism: a case report.

TL;DR: A case of a 58-yr-old male to illustrate the scintigraphic, roentgenographic, clinical, and pathologic features of periarticular tumoral calcinosis that occurred in a hemodialysis patient, where an aplastic disorder was present with very low bone formation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Acid-base disorders in hyperglycemia of insulin-dependent diabetic patients on chronic dialysis

TL;DR: Hyperglycemia in patients on dialysis is characterized by infrequent development of metabolic acidosis and frequent presentation with respiratory alkalosis, by respiratory acidosis that is corrected by insulin, and by metabolic alkalotic developing during treatment without external cause.
Journal ArticleDOI

Creatinine excretion in continuous peritoneal dialysis: A systematic error of the Cockroft-Gault formula

TL;DR: The rate of loss of creatinine excretion with age is one half of the rate predicted by the Cockroft-Gault formula in both women and men on PD therapy, and the difference between excretion (or measured generation) of Creatinine and creatinines generation predicted byThe Cockrofts Gault formula is not constant, but increases with age.
