APHRODITE: Constructing a Long-Term Daily Gridded Precipitation Dataset for Asia Based on a Dense Network of Rain Gauges

TL;DR: A daily gridded precipitation dataset covering a period of more than 57 yr was created by collecting and analyzing rain gauge observation data across Asia through the activities of the Asian Precipitation-Highly Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards Evaluation of Water Resources (APHRODITE) project.
Journal ArticleDOI

A 44-Year Daily Gridded Precipitation Dataset for Asia Based on a Dense Network of Rain Gauges

TL;DR: A daily gridded precipitation dataset for 1961-2004 was created by collecting rain gauge observation data across Asia through the activities of the Asian Precipitation-Highly Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards the Evaluation of Water Resources (APHRODITE) project as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Weak linkage between the heaviest rainfall and tallest storms

TL;DR: It is established that a relatively small fraction of extreme convective events produces extreme rainfall rates in any region of the tropics and subtropics, irrespective of region; most extreme rainfall events are characterized by less intense convection with intense radar echoes not extending to extremely high altitudes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of APHRO_JP, the first Japanese high-resolution daily precipitation product for more than 100 years

TL;DR: In this article, the authors constructed historical (1900 −) high-resolution (0.05° × 0.5°) daily precipitation data over the Japanese land area as part of the product of the Asian Precipitation - Highly-Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards Evaluation of the Water Resources (APHRODITE) project.
