The second edition of the International Encyclopedia of Information and Library Science (IEILS) by Feather and Sturges has been substantially revised and updated to include rapid changes in technology since the first edition was published in 1997. However, the two editions follow the same basic format. The main body of the work is an alphabetical arrangement of subjects or terms found in the fields of information and library science. The entries vary in length from brief definitions of a few sentences to long, signed articles that are followed by numerous references and recommendations for further reading.

The Evaluation of Information Literacy among Medical Students at the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana

- This study investigates challenges of reprographic information resources within the library and some selected private business centers in three universities in Ogun State, Nigeria. The research design adopted for this study was descriptive survey method, with the used questionnaire as instrument to collect data, purposive sampling was used to select forty five (45) reprographic centers from the three selected institutions namely FUNAAB, OOU, TASUED. Forty two of the instruments were useful for the study. Data collected was analyzed using simple percentage. The result of the findings revealed that the types of reprographic services mostly available in the institutions are photocopy, printing, spiral binding. The extent of use of reprographic services by students both in business centers and libraries, the result revealed photocopy, printing, and scanning. This finding further revealed that the profit margin of daily income is between #1000 - #5000 naira. The major challenges faced in the business which are unstable power supply, inadequate reprographic equipment. The finding recommends that the library management and the business owners should improve in providing more relevant services for better patronage. The study suggests that good customer relationship will help the business to grow with time which will help generate more profit. The library management should provide a good budget that will accommodate the purchase of reprographic equipment’s while the business centers can approach bodies that can assist them for loans as far as they are sure of the environment and have a good business plan.

Challenges of Reprographic Information Resources in Libraries and Some Selected Private Business Centers in Three Universities in Ogun State, Nigeria

Purpose: The study examine photocopying practice and copyright law in Nigeria libraries. Design/Methodology/Approach: A social survey method of research was adopted for the study. Five objectives and five research questions were formulated to guide the study. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select one hundred and fifty seven (157) respondents for the study whereas 91% were retrieved. The data collected were analyses using descriptive statistical tools such as, bar chart, percentages and mean. Findings: The outcome of the study revealed that libraries needs to play a prominent role in the issue of copyright law. The results also discovered that no limit to photocopied being made from textbooks and other libraries materials, more so, user’s awareness of copyright law does not influence their photocopying practice. Implication: The paper further emphasized that there should be adequate awareness of librarians in the issues of copyright law for effective and efficiency services delivery. Originality/Value: The paper value can be situated in its appropriate recommendations that libraries should derive a better means of effecting copyright law in Nigeria libraries and Ethics should be applied in the use of copyrighted library materials. Furthermore, law about 'fair use' should not be abused in term of photocopying materials in the library and copyright law offenders should face criminal charges among others.

A Study of Photocopying Practice and Copyright Law in Nigeria Libraries: Librarians Perspectives

The impact of reprographic on document delivery service in libraries and information centres cannot be deserted. This paper assessed the students’ perception and utilization of reprographic services in Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun. Library. The study population comprise 2,213 students of the university. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. Research questions were answered using frequency, bar chart and percentages for easy interpretation. The major findings of the study revealed that reprographic section was not only affected by lack of spares and consumable materials but also lack of technical know-how, insufficient equipment, funds and lack of air-condition/space among other. The frequent use of this section indicated that a lot need to be done to enhance and expand services of the unit, since some services like book binding, thesis binding, thermal binding, photograph, microfilm/micro reader, xerography and drilling were not done. The study recommends expansion of the unit, more funds and experts should be involved in the unit so as to curb the problems of technical know-how and spares/consumables.
