Journal ArticleDOI
Quantum back-action of an individual variable-strength measurement
Michael Hatridge,Shyam Shankar,Mazyar Mirrahimi,Mazyar Mirrahimi,Flavius Schackert,K. Geerlings,T. Brecht,K. Sliwa,B. Abdo,Luigi Frunzio,Steven Girvin,Robert Schoelkopf,Michel Devoret +12 more
TL;DR: The back-action on the qubit state of a single measurement of both signal quadratures was observed and shown to produce a stochastic operation whose action is determined by the measurement result.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nondegenerate three-wave mixing with the Josephson ring modulator
TL;DR: In this article, the generic scattering matrix of the Josephson ring modulator (JRM) is calculated by solving coupled quantum Langevin equations, and experimental data on their dynamic range are found to be in good agreement with theoretical predictions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Josephson directional amplifier for quantum measurement of superconducting circuits.
B. Abdo,K. Sliwa,Shyam Shankar,Michael Hatridge,Luigi Frunzio,Robert Schoelkopf,Michel Devoret +6 more
TL;DR: A microwave quantum-limited amplifier that is directional and can therefore function without the front circulator needed in many quantum measurements is realized, and the qubit and preamplifer could be integrated on the same chip.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-Poissonian Quantum Jumps of a Fluxonium Qubit due to Quasiparticle Excitations
Uri Vool,Ioan Pop,K. Sliwa,B. Abdo,Chen Wang,T. Brecht,Yvonne Y. Gao,Shyam Shankar,Michael Hatridge,Gianluigi Catelani,Mazyar Mirrahimi,Luigi Frunzio,Robert Schoelkopf,Leonid I. Glazman,Michel Devoret +14 more
TL;DR: The quantum jump statistics switches between the expected Poisson distribution and a non-Poissonian one, indicating large relative fluctuations in the quasiparticle population, on time scales varying from seconds to hours.
Journal ArticleDOI
Full coherent frequency conversion between two propagating microwave modes.
B. Abdo,K. Sliwa,Flavius Schackert,Nicolas Bergeal,Michael Hatridge,Luigi Frunzio,A. Douglas Stone,Michel Devoret +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a Josephson three-wave mixing device pumped at the difference between the frequencies of its fundamental eigenmodes functions as a controllable three- wave beam splitter or combiner for propagating microwave modes at the single-photon level in accordance with theory.
