Test Results of the First 3.7 m Long Nb3Sn Quadrupole by LARP and Future Plans
Giorgio Ambrosio,N. Andreev,Michael Anerella,Emanuela Barzi,B Bingham,D. Bocian,R. Bossert,Shlomo Caspi,G. Chlachidize,D.R. Dietderich,J. Escallier,Helene Felice,Paolo Ferracin,A.K. Ghosh,Arno Godeke,R.R. Hafalia,R. Hannaford,G. Jochen,V.V. Kashikhin,M. J. Kim,P. Kovach,M.J. Lamm,A.D. McInturff,Joseph Muratore,F. Nobrega,I. Novitsky,D.F. Orris,E Prebys,Soren Prestemon,G.L. Sabbi,Jesse Schmalzle,C. Sylvester,M.A. Tartaglia,Daniele Turrioni,G.V. Velev,P. Wanderer,G. Whitson,Alexander V. Zlobin +37 more
TL;DR: The first Long Nb3Sn Quadrupole made by LARP (LHC Accelerator Research Program, a collaboration of BNL, FNAL, LBNL and SLAC), reached its target field gradient of 200 T/m during its first cold test as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recent Test Results of the High Field ${\rm Nb}_{3}{\rm Sn}$ Dipole Magnet HD2
Paolo Ferracin,B Bingham,Shlomo Caspi,Daniel W. Cheng,D.R. Dietderich,Helene Felice,A.R. Hafalia,C.R. Hannaford,J. M. Joseph,A.F. Lietzke,J. Lizarazo,G.L. Sabbi,Xiaorong Wang +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the 1 m long Nb3Sn dipole magnet HD2, fabricated and tested at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, represents a step towards the development of block-type accelerator quality magnet operating in the range of 13-15 T. The magnet design features two coil modules composed of two layers wound around a titanium-alloy pole.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fabrication and Test of a 3.7 m Long Support Structure for the LARP ${\hbox{Nb}}_{3}{\hbox{Sn}}$ Quadrupole Magnet LQS01
Paolo Ferracin,G. Ambrosio,Michael Anerella,B Bingham,R. Bossert,Shlomo Caspi,Daniel W. Cheng,Helene Felice,A.R. Hafalia,C.R. Hannaford,F. Nobrega,Soren Prestemon,GianLuca Sabbi,Jesse Schmalzle,Frederic Trillaud,P. Wanderer,Alexander V. Zlobin +16 more
TL;DR: The 3.7 m long quadrupole magnet LQS01 represents a major step of the US LHC Accelerator Research Program (LARP) towards the development of long Nb3Sn accelerator quadrupoles magnets for a LHC Luminosity upgrade.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assembly and Test of HD2, a 36 mm Bore High Field ${\rm Nb}_{3}{\rm Sn}$ Dipole Magnet
Paolo Ferracin,B Bingham,Shlomo Caspi,Daniel W. Cheng,D.R. Dietderich,Helene Felice,Arno Godeke,A.R. Hafalia,C.R. Hannaford,J. M. Joseph,A.F. Lietzke,J. Lizarazo,G.L. Sabbi,Frederic Trillaud,Xiaorong Wang +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the fabrication, assembly, and test of the Nb3Sn dipole magnet HD2 is described, which is optimized to minimize geometric harmonics in the aperture and the magnetic peak field on the conductor in the coil ends.
Journal ArticleDOI
Performance of a ${\rm Nb}_{3}{\rm Sn}$ Quadrupole Under High Stress
Helene Felice,Marta Bajko,B Bingham,Bernardo Bordini,L. Bottura,Shlomo Caspi,G. de Rijk,D.R. Dietderich,Paolo Ferracin,C. Giloux,Arno Godeke,R.R. Hafalia,Attilio Milanese,Lucio Rossi,G.L. Sabbi +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a series of tests was carried out within a LBNL/CERN collaboration using the magnet TQS03 (a LARP) 1-meter long, 90mm aperture Nb3Sn quadrupole).
