Jambur Labu is a village in East Aceh that is home to various ethnic groups. The community in the village has used various plant species as a traditional medicine to treat diseases and disorders. The aim of this study was to investigate the medicinal plants used by the community in the Jambur Labu Village, Birem Bayeun Sub-district, East Aceh, Indonesia. This study was based on field surveys, plant collection, and interviews with the local people. Interviews were performed with 30 informants selected using the Snowball Sampling technique. A total of 107 medicinal plant species, belonging to 87 families, were documented to be used by the local community in Jambur Labu Village. Leaves were the most used plant part (38%), followed by fruit (22%), whole plant (9%), rhizome (8%), roots (7%), flowers and bark (4% each), sap (3%), stem and tuber (2% each), and seeds (1%) and the main mode of preparations are decoction (39%). Breynia androgyna (L.) Chakrab.dan N.P.Balakr., Moringa oleifera Lam, Jatropha multifida L., Zingiber montanum (J.Koenig) Link ex A.Dietr., Zingiber officinale Roscoe., and Tagetes erecta L. had the highest UV value (0.96), indicating the high importance of such species for the community. The high informant consensus factor (ICF=0.978) was assigned to the diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs and certain disorders involving the immune mechanism (DBF) category. The results of this study can enrich the existing study of medicinal uses of plant by communities, in this context is the use by a community in Aceh.

Ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants used by community in Jambur Labu Village, East Aceh, Indonesia

The research sought to understand the value of patriotism in the Hikayat Prang Sabi by using a qualitative approach. Hikayat was referred to narratives (saga) of war rooted in Acehnese cultural tradition, and Prang Sabi in Acehnese language meant ‘Holy War’. As a literary work, Hikayat Prang Sabi embodied the concept of jihad, which was usually sung during the time of war in the Acehnese history: Portuguese in 1511, Dutch in 1873, Japan in 1942, and the Republic of Indonesia in 1976. The source of the data was verses or stanzas of Hikayat Prang Sabi that contained patriotic values. These verses were then treated as the unit of analysis. A hermeneutic approach was employed to analyze the data. The findings show that Hikayat Prang Sabi contains two types of patriotic values: national and religious. National value refers to the sense of nationalism, ethnicity, and humanity. Religious value, on the other hand, displays the value of spirituality, prophecy, and peace. These values indicate the foundation of thinking and doing of the Acehnese people manifested in a literary work, which then can be transferred into the notion of character education.

Character Education in an Acehnese Cultural Saga: Hikayat Prang Sabi

The traditional foods of the Aneuk Jamee Tribe have a long history and unique traditions passed down for thousands of years. However, a lack of information about indigenous and traditional foods of the Aneuk Jamee Tribe will lead to a decline in local knowledge of traditional foods, particularly among the younger generation. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the variety of Aneuk Jamee traditional foods in the South Aceh District of Indonesia. The study was conducted in South Aceh, Indonesia, Labuhan Haji Timur, Kota Bahagia, and Kluet Selatan Sub-districts. The study involved 90 respondents (30 from each sub-district) chosen at random. The interview was conducted using a questionnaire covering the respondents' backgrounds, traditional food names, food composition, mode of preparation, and uses. As a result, 52 Aneuk Jamee's traditional foods were identified from three sub-districts of South Aceh District, including 41 types of traditional cuisine and 11 types of traditional snacks. All respondents recognised Gulai ciik minyak, Gulai taleh, Gulai paku, Gulai cabadak, Gulai kabau, Gulai kambieng, Gulai ikan panjang, Gulai kitang, Kue kakareh, Limpieng sagu, and Limpieng ubi as Aneuk Jamee traditional foods. On the other hand, less than 20% of respondents were familiar with other traditional foods, such as Lamang ubi. The Aneuk Jamee Tribe has an excellent system for passing down traditional knowledge from generation to generation. Fifty-six plant species consisting of 47 genera and 28 families were used as Aneuk Jamee traditional food. The Aneuk Jamee Tribe prepares various foods from various plant species to maintain their health and contribute to household income and conservation efforts.

Aneuk Jamee traditional foods in the South Aceh District, Indonesia

Biodiversitas 23: 1311-1319. Aceh Province, Indonesia is home to a diverse range of tropical fruit plants. However, increased anthropogenic activities such as population growth and natural disasters resulted in various biological resources such as wild edible fruit plants being under threat. The study aimed to assess the diversity and threatened status of wild edible fruit plant species in the Aceh Province of Indonesia. The study was conducted in six regencies, namely Aceh Tamiang, Aceh Timur, Aceh Selatan, Aceh Utara, Aceh Barat, and Aceh Tengah. At each study area, a line transect of 1,000 meters was laid from the forest's edge into the forest. Wild edible fruit plant species discovered along the transect were collected and given local names. A total of 129 wild edible fruit plant species at six studied areas in the Aceh Province belonged to 38 families. The highest number of fruit plant species was recorded in the district of Aceh Tamiang, i.e., 63 species, followed by Aceh Selatan (56 species), Aceh Barat (46 species), Aceh Timur (37 species), Aceh Utara (31 species), and Aceh Tengah (23 species). Mangifera foetida Lour., Mangifera odorata Griff., Artocarpus integer (Thunb.) Merr., Ficus altissima Blume, Ficus fistulosa Reinw. ex Blume, Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels, Passiflora foetida L., and Pometia pinnata J.R. Forst. & G. Forst. were the most frequently recorded wild fruit plant species in all regencies. From 129 wild edible fruit species recorded in the study areas, 35% are currently classified as Least Concern, 6% as Vulnerable, 3% as Near Threatened, 2% as Low Risk, 2% as Data Deficient, and 52% of species in the IUCN red list had No Available Data. Community-based conservation through domestication of wild edible fruit plant species can be one of the management strategies for the conservation of wild edible fruit plants in Aceh Province.

Kluet people are one of the ethnic communities living in Southern Aceh, Indonesia. Various herbs and spices plants are used by the Kluet people as a traditional medicine in treating diseases and disorders. The study aimed to investigate the diversity of herbs and spices plants and their importance in the traditional medical system. It was based on field surveys, plant collection, and semi-structured interviews with the local people. Interviews were performed with 355 informants selected by using the random sampling technique. A total of 30 medicinal plant species, consisting of 18 families, have been documented. Curcuma longa, Kaempferia galanga, Zingiber officinale, Citrus x aurantiifolia, Alpinia galanga, Averrhoa bilimbi, Elettaria cardamomum, Allium sativum, Cocos nucifera, and Syzygium aromaticum are the most popular medicinal plants known by Kluet people. More than 40% of traditional knowledge related to the use of herbs and spices as traditional medicine was obtained from their families/friends/neighbors. Traditional knowledge is thought to decline among generations. It is supposedly due to lifestyle changes as a result of modernization. The documentation and promotion of traditional medicine systems through formal and non-formal education may contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and traditional knowledge.

Aneuk Jamee is one of the ethnic communities living along the western-south coast of Aceh. Various plants are used by the Aneuk Jamee tribe as a traditional medicine in treating diseases and disorders. The aim of this study was therefore to document the medicinal plants used by the Aneuk Jamee tribe in the Kota Bahagia sub-district, South Aceh, Indonesia. This study was conducted in three villages, namely Jombo Keupok, Seuneubok Kuranji, and Alur Dua Mas, Kota Bahagia subdistrict, South Aceh District, Aceh Province. This study was based on field surveys, plant collection, and interviews with the local people. Interviews were performed with 60 informants selected by using the Snowball Sampling technique. A total of 96 medicinal plant species, consisting of 50 families, have been documented to be used by the Aneuk Jamee tribe in the Kota Bahagia subdistrict. Fifty-nine (61%) species are cultivated and 37 (39%) species are wild. Leaves are the most widely used plant part (28%), followed by the fruit (19%), flower and tuber (6% each), seed (3%), and sap (2%) and the main mode of preparations are decoction (60%), followed by raw consumption (14%), smeared (10%), pounded (7%), dropped (6%), and affixed and squeezed (1% each). The high informant consensus factor (ICF=0.98) was assigned to the diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs and certain disorders involving the immune mechanism category.

Documentation of medicinal plants used by Aneuk Jamee tribe in Kota Bahagia Sub-district, South Aceh, Indonesia

Local communities in Aceh Tamiang have gained a wealth of medicinal knowledge through practice and experience in their long-term battles with the disease. However, because of a lack of written records and rapid economic development, their traditional medicinal knowledge is under threat. This study investigated medicinal plants and related traditional knowledge of local communities in the Sekerak subdistrict, Aceh Taming, Indonesia. Field surveys, plant collections, and interviews with communities were used in this study. The Snowball Sampling technique was used to select 60 informants for the interviews. A total of 46 medicinal plant species belonging to 40 genera and 26 families were used for medicinal purposes by local communities to treat 28 different diseases. The itch, swelling, cough, and nosebleed were the most commonly treated. With a use-value index of 0.98, Tagetes erecta was the most commonly used medicinal plant by local communities. In addition, local communities identified the leaf (50%) as the most widely used plant part and oral administration (65%) as the most common method of administering traditional medicine. Elders have more knowledge of medicinal plants than younger generations, indicating that traditional knowledge is eroding across generations. However, initiatives to promote and conserve medicinal plants must be improved, particularly among the younger generation. This is required to ensure the availability of medicinal plants and the preservation of traditional knowledge in the future.

The indigenous and traditional foods of the Alas tribe have a long history and unique traditions that have been passed down for thousands of years. Unfortunately, food tradition is strongly intertwined with the health-related and therapeutic reasoning of food ingredients and preparation methods. However, changes in people's consumption patterns, which prefer fast food, lead to a decline in local knowledge of traditional foods, particularly among the younger generation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to document the traditional Alas food in Southeast Aceh District, Indonesia. The study was conducted in eight subdistricts of Southeast Aceh, Indonesia, namely Lawe Alas, Babul Rahmah, Tanoh Alas, Babussalam, Darul Hasanah, Lawe Bulan, Lawe Sumur, and Bambel subdistricts. The study enlisted 80 respondents (10 from each district) who were chosen at random. The interview was conducted using a questionnaire that covered the respondents' backgrounds, traditional food names, food composition, mode of preparation, and uses. A total of 16 traditional Alas foods were documented, including six types of traditional cuisine and 10 types of traditional snacks. All respondents recognized Manuk Labakh, Ikan Pacik Kule, Puket Megaukh, and Buah Khum Khum as traditional Alas foods. On the other hand, less than 25% of respondents were familiar with some other traditional Alas foods, such as Menekem. The Alas tribe has a great system in place for passing down traditional knowledge from generation to generation. A total of 24 plant species consisting of 21 genera and 14 families was used as traditional Alas food. The Alas tribe prepares a variety of foods from various plant species to maintain their health and contribute to conservation efforts.

Documentation of the traditional Alas food in Southeast Aceh district, Indonesia

As one of the provinces in Indonesia, Aceh had been significant contribution for developing of literature in Nusantara. As the entry gate of Islamic in Nusantara, Aceh has had  an importance position for developing of its literature. Acehnese literature influenced the development of Islamic and related with society custom. Many of literary works written by Acehnese author were also affected toward the development of literature in Nusantara. The characteristic of Acehnese literature almost the same with classical literature as follow as anonymous, delivery orally and hereditary. Most of the literary works produced namely the poem perahu  written by Hamzah Fansuri by using Sufism approach, Bustanul as Salatin by Nuruddin ar-Raniry, The tale of Prang Sabi by Tengku Chik Pante Kulu expressed about the patriotism of Acehnese in defending their homeland from colonialism, The tale of  Pocut Muhammad, The tale of Putroe Bungsu and others. The whole of this literary works presenting by oral caused the characteristic of Acehnese are preferable to talk rather than to write. The research aimed to see the development of Acehnese literature in the framing of Nusantara literature. The method used library studies through understanding some references refer to the development of Acehnese literature. The result of the research shown that the development of Acehnese literature starts from classical till now had been contributed toward the development of literature in Nusantara. It can be stated from many literary works produced by Acehnese authors had been given a  significant position to Nusantara literature.  The research concluded that the development of acehnese literature had contributed the development of literature in Nusantara.
