Journal ArticleDOI
ATP degradation products after ischemic exercise Hereditary lack of phosphorylase or carnitine palmityltransferase
TL;DR: Plasma purine levels were elevated above the normal range after ischemic exercise in McArdle's disease and in carnitine palmityltransferase deficiency after fasting, which implied abnormally accelerated ATP degradation in these two myopathies.
Journal ArticleDOI
To Be a CLABSI or Not to Be a CLABSI – That is the Question: The Epidemiology of Bloodstream Infections in a Large ECMO Population
Jessica Seidelman,Sarah S. Lewis,Kirk Huslage,Nancy Strittholt,Sheila Vereen,Christopher Sova,Bonnie Taylor,Desiree Bonadonna,David N. Ranney,Utlara Nag,Mani A. Daneshmand,Deverick J. Anderson,Daniel J. Sexton,Becky Smith +13 more
TL;DR: The rate of CLABSI was more than 3 times higher in this cohort of ECMO recipients than nationally reported rates for academic MICUs and CTICUs and NHSN should update itsCLABSI definition and/or risk adjustment to account for hospitals with high ECMO utilization.
Journal ArticleDOI
1251. Contaminated Sinks May be an Environmental Source for Serial Transmission of Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) to ICU Patients
Sarah S. Lewis,Jessica Seidelman,Kirk Huslage,Charlene Carriker,Amy Hnat,Erica Lobaugh-Jin,Christopher Sova,Bonnie Taylor,Nancy Strittholt,Sheila Vereen,Robbie Willis,Christy Campbell,Rachel Addison,Kevin C. Hazen,Amy J. Mathers,Kasi Vegesana,Joanne Carroll,Shireen Meher Kotay,Arthur W. Baker,Daniel J. Sexton,Deverick J. Anderson,Becky Smith,Becky Smith +22 more
TL;DR: A multispecies outbreak of KPC-E that was mitigated through evidence-based CRE control measures and removal of a colonized sink is described, however, ongoing low-level presumed transmission of K PC points to persistent environmental sources.
Journal Article
Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blind, Randomized Pilot Study to Evaluate the Effects of Low-Dose Naltrexone on Quality of Life and Fatigue in Newly Diagnosed High-Grade Glioma (P4.210)
Katherine B. Peters,Mary Lou Affronti,Sarah Woodring,Eric S. Lipp,Patrick Healy,Frances McSherry,James E. Herndon,Charlene Flahiff,Elizabeth Miller,Maria Freeman,Janet Minchew,Ben Zalutsky,Bonnie Taylor,Susan Boulton,Dina Randazzo,Dina Randazzo,Annick Desjardins,Gordana Vlahovic,Darell D. Bigner,Henry S. Friedman +19 more
TL;DR: Though LDN is safe to administer, LDN has no impact on QoL or fatigue in HGG patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhancement of infection prevention case review process to optimize learning from defects
Staci S. Reynolds,Chris D Sova,Halie Lozano,Kalpana Bhandari,Bonnie Taylor,Erica Lobaugh-Jin,Charlene Carriker,Sarah S. Lewis,Becky A. Smith,I.C. Kalu +9 more
TL;DR: Practical information is provided for structuring the case review process using readily available health system platforms to help identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
