It is shown that, particularly for terrestrial cellular telephony, the interference-suppression feature of CDMA (code division multiple access) can result in a many-fold increase in capacity over analog and even over competing digital techniques. A single-cell system, such as a hubbed satellite network, is addressed, and the basic expression for capacity is developed. The corresponding expressions for a multiple-cell system are derived. and the distribution on the number of users supportable per cell is determined. Implementation of digital modulation identification on signal processing platform for software defined radio

Next generation multimedia wireless networks require guaranteed quality of service (QoS) over the duration of mobile connections, and also require efficient use of network resources. In this paper, bandwidth reservation scheme is proposed for QoS provisioning in multimedia wireless networks. The proposed scheme integrates user mobility information obtained by measuring Received Signal Strength (RSS) for determining the next cell the mobile user is likely to move to. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can guarantee the required QoS requirements in terms of handoff call dropping probability and new call blocking probability while maintaining efficient use of network resources.

Utilising signal measurement in bandwidth reservation scheme for qos provisioning in multimedia wireless networks

The growing variety and consumption of the mobile services throughout the cellular networks lead to various challenging issues in radio resource scheduling. To have an apparent perspective over the resource scheduling in real implementation of the next generation cellular networks, it is essential to consider sequences of alternating overload and normal states of the traffic, occurring much in the system. In this paper, we do a performance study of three overload-state schedulers by implementing such a network environment and exploiting the advantages and drawbacks of the compared algorithms. This performance study through the simulation results reveals that the existing overload-state resource scheduling schemes do not satisfy the fifth generation (5G) mobile network's requirements to be more optimized in hard real time fashion. Then, open challenges and potential research directions for resource management in future 5G mobile networks are presented at the end.

Overload-state downlink resource scheduling and its challenges towards 5G networks

Two main problems of multi-user communication systems are the multiple access interference (MAI) and the near-far effects. While the near-far effect problem can be approached by applying power control, the MAI problem requires individual receivers to identify the desired signal from interferences thus making multi-user detector a popular area of research. Genetic algorithms (GA) is a search and optimization technique that works by estimating multiple solutions in order to come with the best estimated solution. GA works iteratively over a population of solutions using crossover and mutation to simulate a potential solution. In this paper we examine the performance of a micro-genetic algorithm-based multi-user detector. Our simulation shows that /spl mu/GA achieves a performance close to an optimal detector.

Performance evaluation of multi-user detection in CDMA using micro-genetic algorithm

An adaptive feedback consolidation algorithm is proposed for the multicast available bit rate (ABR) service in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks. The proposed scheme adapts between speed and accuracy of feedback information. The results indicate that the proposed scheme eliminates consolidation noise while exhibiting a fast transient response.
