TL;DR: Successful nonoperative management was associated with higher blood pressure and hematocrit, and less severe injury based on ISS, Glasgow Coma Scale, grade of splenic injury, and quantity of hemoperitoneum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Failure of observation of blunt splenic injury in adults: variability in practice and adverse consequences.
TL;DR: It is suggested that written protocols, better adherence to sound clinical judgment, and experienced and timely interpretation of radiologic studies would reduce the incidence of failure of nonoperative management of blunt splenic injury in adults.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Women > or = 55 had significantly greater mortality and failure of NOM than women < 55 and had a greater mortality for all forms of treatment of their blunt splenic injury and failed NOM more frequently than patients < 55.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sexual Dimorphism in Insulin Sensitivity in Adolescents with Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus
TL;DR: There is a distinct sexual dimorphism in insulin sensitivity in adolescents with IDDM, likely to be due to sex-related differences in GH levels, and male patients with ID DM are apt to develop greater degrees of hypoglycemia accompanied by lower GH responses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Panniculectomy as an adjuvant to bariatric surgery
T. Oguz Acarturk,Galen S. Wachtman,Brian V. Heil,Alan Landecker,Anita P. Courcoulas,Ernest K. Manders +5 more
TL;DR: Patients undergoing weight reduction surgery had good outcomes, with 3 postoperative deaths in the group with panniculectomy at the same time of bariatric surgery, and an interval of weight loss prior to the procedure makes this procedure safer and more effective.
