Blends of polycaprolactone with polyvinylalcohol: a DSC, optical microscopy and solid state NMR study

TL;DR: In this paper, a mixture of polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVAl) was obtained by evaporation of a solution of both components in hexafluoroisopropanol.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biodegradation of polycaprolactone and its blends with poly(vinylalcohol) by micro-organisms from a compost of house-hold refuse

TL;DR: In this article, pure polycaprolactone (PCL) films are completely assimilated over periods of 600-800 h. The results showed that even PCL rich blends, even when present in small amounts in the incubation medium, adsorbs on the surface of PCL or blend films; PCL is then inaccessible to micro-organisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intermolecular interactions in blends of poly(vinyl alcohol) with poly(acrylic acid)-1. FTIR and DSC studies

TL;DR: In this article, the melting behavior of blends of polyvinyl alcohol (PVAI) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) has been studied as a function of blend composition and the replacement of H-bonding interactions in pure PAA and PVAI by intermolecular interactions has been proved by analysis of the OH and CO stretching region in the i.r. spectra.
Journal ArticleDOI

The biodegradation of polymers: Recent results

TL;DR: In this article, a manometric method which allows the measurement of the oxygen consumed by the growing microorganisms has been developed for characterization of polymer biodegradability, and the results obtained in their laboratory for various polymers in three different composting units are presented.
