Journal ArticleDOI
The role of interfacial properties on the intralaminar and interlaminar damage behaviour of unidirectional composite laminates: Experimental characterization and multiscale modelling
Wei Tan,F. Naya,Lingwei Yang,Lingwei Yang,T. Chang,Brian Falzon,L. Zhan,Jon M. Molina-Aldareguia,C. González,C. González,Javier LLorca,Javier LLorca +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, composites with various fiber/matrix and interlaminar interfacial properties were fabricated using an autoclave under curing pressures ranging from 0 to 0.8 MPa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiscale virtual testing: the roadmap to efficient design of composites for damage resistance and tolerance
Claudio S. Lopes,C. González,C. González,O. Falcó,F. Naya,Javier LLorca,Javier LLorca,B.H.A.H. Tijs +7 more
TL;DR: A bottom-up multiscale virtual testing strategy is presented to take into account the physical mechanisms of deformation at different length scales on the behaviour of the composite.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interface Characterization in Fiber-Reinforced Polymer–Matrix Composites
F. Naya,Jon M. Molina-Aldareguia,Claudio S. Lopes,C. González,C. González,Javier LLorca,Javier LLorca +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a methodology is presented and applied to measure the shear interface strength of fiber-reinforced polymers based on fiber push-in tests carried out on the central fiber of highly-packed fiber clusters with hexagonal symmetry.
Journal ArticleDOI
X-ray computed tomography analysis of damage evolution in open hole carbon fiber-reinforced laminates subjected to in-plane shear
Federico Sket,Alejandro Enfedaque,C Diaz Lopez,C. González,C. González,Jon M. Molina-Aldareguia,Javier LLorca,Javier LLorca +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the deformation and damage mechanisms during tensile deformation of [±45] 2s open hole carbon fiber composite materials were quantitatively analyzed by means of image analysis of XCT data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Special-purpose elements to impose Periodic Boundary Conditions for multiscale computational homogenization of composite materials with the explicit Finite Element Method
S. Sadaba,Miguel González Herráez,Miguel González Herráez,F. Naya,F. Naya,C. González,C. González,Javier LLorca,Javier LLorca,Claudio S. Lopes +9 more
TL;DR: A novel methodology is presented to introduce Periodic Boundary Conditions (PBC) on periodic Representative Volume Elements (RVE) in Finite Element (FE) solvers based on dynamic explicit time integration and demonstrates the homogenization of composite ply properties through the explicit FE method with increased efficiency and similar reliability.
