The cyclotron frequencies of free protons and electrons in a magnetic field of 5.81 Tesla with superimposed electrostatic quadrupole field have been measured. The increase of energy connected with a transition at cyclotron frequency is detected by the measurement of the time of flight through an inhomogeneous magnetic field. A Direct Determination of the Proton-Electron Mass Ratio

A double Penning trap is being commissioned at CENBG Bordeaux for the future DESIR/SPIRAL2 facility of GANIL. The setup is designed to perform both high-resolution mass separation of the ion beam for trap-assisted spectroscopy, and high-accuracy mass spectrometry of short-lived nuclides. In this paper, the technical details of the new device are described. First offline tests with the purification trap are also presented, showing a mass resolving power of about 10 5 .

PIPERADE: A double Penning trap for mass separation and mass spectrometry at DESIR/SPIRAL2

We present an apparatus for detection of cyclotron radiation that allows a frequency-based beta energy determination in the 5 keV to 5 MeV range, characteristic of nuclear beta decays. The cyclotron frequency of the radiating beta particles in a magnetic field is used to determine the beta energy precisely. Our work establishes the foundation to apply the cyclotron radiation emission spectroscopy (CRES) technique, developed by the Project 8 collaboration, far beyond the 18-keV tritium endpoint region. We report initial measurements of beta^-s from 6He and beta^+s from 19Ne decays to demonstrate the broadband response of our detection system and assess potential systematic uncertainties for beta spectroscopy over the full (MeV) energy range. This work is an important benchmark for the practical application of the CRES technique to a variety of nuclei, in particular, opening its reach to searches for evidence of new physics beyond the TeV scale via precision beta-decay measurements.

First observation of cyclotron radiation from MeV-scale ${\rm e}^{pm}$ following nuclear beta decay

A new 3He-driven IGISOL production station and mass separator have been designed to produce neutron-deficient low-mass isotopes at the Cyclotron Institute for the TAMUTRAP facility. The LSTAR design has a mass resolution M/ΔM≥3,000 to reject contaminants with >95% efficiency.

The TAMUTRAP facility: A Penning trap facility at Texas A&M University for weak interaction studies

The Recycler Ring (RR) at the Fermilab Accelerator Complex performs slip-stacking on 8 GeV protons, doubling the beam intensity delivered to the Main Injector (MI). At MI, the beam is accelerated to 120 GeV and delivered to the high energy neutrino experiments. Femilab’s Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) will require the Recycler to store 50% more beam. Simulations have shown that the space charge tune shift at this new intensity will lead to the excitation of multiple resonance lines. Specifically, this study looks at normal sextupole lines 3𝑄 𝑥 = 76 and 𝑄 𝑥 + 2𝑄 𝑦 = 74 , plus skew sextupole lines 3𝑄 𝑦 = 73 and 2𝑄 𝑥 + 𝑄 𝑦 = 75 . Dedicated normal and skew sextupoles have been installed in order to compensate for these resonance lines. By measuring and calculating the Resonance Driving Terms (RDT), this study shows how each of the resonance lines can be com-pensated independently. Furthermore, this study shows and discusses initial investigations into compensating multiple lines simultaneously. in the FNAL Recycler Ring. Results show further studies need to be done as to how compensating one or multiple resonance lines may affect other lines by making them stronger.
