Journal ArticleDOI
Induction of graft-versus-host disease as immunotherapy for relapsed chronic myeloid leukemia.
TL;DR: The induction of a graft-versus-leukemia reaction with interferon alfa-2b and infusions of donor mononuclear cells in patients with CML in relapse after bone marrow transplantation is an effective antileukemic therapy that may offer an alternative to a second marrow transplation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interleukin-1 blockade does not prevent acute graft-versus-host disease: results of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist in allogeneic bone marrow transplantation.
Joseph H. Antin,Daniel J. Weisdorf,Donna Neuberg,Donna Neuberg,Roberta Nicklow,Roberta Nicklow,Shawn G. Clouthier,Shawn G. Clouthier,Stephanie J. Lee,Stephanie J. Lee,Edwin P. Alyea,Edwin P. Alyea,Carol McGarigle,Carol McGarigle,Bruce R. Blazar,Stephen T. Sonis,Stephen T. Sonis,Robert J. Soiffer,Robert J. Soiffer,James L.M. Ferrara,James L.M. Ferrara +20 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that blockade ofIL-1 using IL-1Ra during conditioning and 10 days immediately after transplantation is not sufficient to reduce GVHD or toxicity or to improve survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quality of life following bone marrow transplantation: findings from a multicentre study.
Michael A. Andrykowski,C. B. Greiner,Elizabeth M. Altmaier,Thomas G. Burish,Joseph H. Antin,Roger D. Gingrich,Carol McGarigle,Henslee-Downey Pj +7 more
TL;DR: While many BMT recipients reported normal QOL, the majority indicated that their QOL was compromised relative to premorbid status, and evidence for improved functional status with the passage of time post BMT was obtained.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polysaccharide conjugate vaccine responses in bone marrow transplant patients.
Eva C. Guinan,Deborah C. Molrine,Joseph H. Antin,Mei C. Lee,Howard J. Weinstein,Stephen E. Sallan,Susan K. Parsons,Catherine Wheeler,Wendy Gross,Carol McGarigle,Peter Blanding,Gerald Schiffman,Robert W. Finberg,George R. Siber,David L. Bolon,Michael Wang,Sophia Cariati,Donna M. Ambrosino +17 more
TL;DR: While the response to pure PS pneumococcal vaccine was poor, the results with HIB-conjugate vaccine suggest that future pneumitiscal conjugate vaccines may also benefit BMT patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Graft-Versus-Tumor Induction With Donor Leukocyte Infusions as Primary Therapy for Patients With Malignancies
David L. Porter,Jean M. Connors,Vivianna M. Van Deerlin,Kathleen M. Duffy,Carol McGarigle,Susan L. Saidman,Debra G.B. Leonard,Joseph H. Antin +7 more
TL;DR: Allogeneic adoptive immunotherapy resulted in sustained chimerism, acute GVHD, and a GVT response in heavily pretreated patients, indicating that it may be possible to generate a direct GVT reaction for patients with malignancies without the need for intensive conditioning therapy immediately before DLI.
