Albertino Damasceno,Bongani M. Mayosi,Mahmoud U Sani,Okechukwu S Ogah,Charles Mondo,Dike B. Ojji,Anastase Dzudie,Charles Kouam Kouam,Ahmed Suliman,Neshaad Schrueder,Gerald Yonga,Serigne Abdou Ba,Fikru Maru,Bekele Alemayehu,Christopher L. Edwards,Beth A. Davison,Gad Cotter,Karen Sliwa +17 more
TL;DR: In African patients, AHF has a predominantly nonischemic cause, most commonly hypertension, and the outcome is similar to that observed in non-African AHF registries, suggesting that AHf has a dire prognosis globally, regardless of the cause.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of hypertension in a self-selected sub-Saharan African urban population: a cross-sectional study
Anastase Dzudie,Andre Pascal Kengne,Walinjom Muna,Hamadou Ba,Alain Menanga,Charles Kouam Kouam,Joseph Abah,Yves Monkam,Christian Biholong,Pierre Mintom,Félicité Kamdem,Armel Djomou,Jules Ndjebet,Cyrille Wambo,Henry Luma,Kathleen Blackett Ngu,Samuel Kingue +16 more
TL;DR: High prevalence of hypertension with low awareness, treatment and control were found in this urban population in Cameroon; these findings are significant and alarming with consideration to the various improvements in the access to healthcare and the continuing efforts to educate communities over the last few decades.
Journal ArticleDOI
Readmission and death after an acute heart failure event: predictors and outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa: results from the THESUS-HF registry
Karen Sliwa,Beth A. Davison,Bongani M. Mayosi,Albertino Damasceno,Mahmoud U Sani,O.S. Ogah,Charles Mondo,Dike B. Ojji,Anastase Dzudie,Charles Kouam Kouam,Ahmed Suliman,Neshaad Schrueder,Gerald Yonga,Sergine Abdou Ba,Fikru Maru,Bekele Alemayehu,Christopher L. Edwards,Gad Cotter +17 more
TL;DR: Despite the differences in age and disease characteristics, the main predictors for 6 months mortality and combined 60 days re-admission and death are largely similar in sub-Saharan Africa as in the rest of the world, with some exceptions such as the association of the HIV status with mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diane Macquart de Terline,Diane Macquart de Terline,Adama Kane,Kouadio Euloge Kramoh,Ibrahim Ali Toure,Jean Bruno Mipinda,Ibrahima Bara Diop,Carol Nhavoto,Dadhi M. TL;DR: The high frequency of poor adherence in African patients and the associated factors should be useful for tailoring future programs to tackle hypertension in low income countries that are better adapted to patients, with a potential associated enhancement of their effectiveness.
Journal ArticleDOI

Marie Antignac,Ibrahima Bara Diop,Diane Macquart de Terline,Kouadio Euloge Kramoh,Dadhi M.
