Effect of Eritoran, an Antagonist of MD2-TLR4, on Mortality in Patients With Severe Sepsis

TL;DR: Steven M. Opal, MDPierre-Francois Laterre, MDBruno Francois, MDSteven P. LaRosa, MDDerek C. Kalil, MD, MPHMarc Van Nuffelen, MDMelvyn Lynn, PhDDaniel P. Rossignol, PhDJogadish Gogate, PhDMary B. Roberts, MSJanice L. Wheeler, BS, RNJean-Louis Vincent, MD as discussed by the authors
Journal ArticleDOI

Intravenous mannitol does not increase blood-brain barrier permeability to inert dyes in the adult rat forebrain.

TL;DR: Direct evidence is reported that IV-M, at a dose used clinically, in contrast to the same dose of ICA- M, exerted no effect on BBB permeability to protein and small molecular tracers.

A 'membrane in syringe' technique that allows identification of the epidural space with saline while avoids injection of air into the epidural space.

TL;DR: The advantage of this technique is when the syringe is filled with both normal saline and air, it can prevent injection of the air into the epidural space during identification while at the same time it does not molest the feel of compressibility.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increase in Evans blue dye extravasation into the brain in the late developmental stage.

TL;DR: A specific increase in EBD extravasation in the mature forebrain is found, and the protocol that is used may be a good template for studying developmental disruption of the BBB.
