Fracture toughness and failure mechanism of graphene based epoxy composites

Carbon nanomaterials are receiving worldwide attention because of their multi-faceted superiority in thermal conductivity, flame retardancy, mechanical stability, electrical conductivity, and biocompatibility. In this review, a survey of the literature on extending performance of epoxy resins based on carbon nanomaterials is presented. The structure-performance relationships for different carbon nanomaterials modified epoxy are closely analyzed. The performance extension in mechanical, electrical, thermal conductivity, flame retardancy, antidegradation, and tribological properties of epoxy are reviewed in detail. Other application areas including biocompatibility, biodegradability, gas barrier properties, shape memory, and electromagnetic interference shielding are touched. The challenges and opportunities in carbon nanomaterials functionalized epoxy composites are also discussed.

Aligning multilayer graphene flakes with an external electric field to improve multifunctional properties of epoxy nanocomposites

Electrically conductive composites comprising polymers and graphene are extremely versatile and have a wide range of potential applications. The conductivity of these composites depends on the choice of polymer matrix, the type of graphene filler, the processing methodology, and any post-production treatments. In this review, we discuss the progress in graphene-polymer composites for electrical applications. Graphene filler types are reviewed, the progress in modelling these composites is outlined, the current optimal composites are presented, and the example of strain sensors is used to demonstrate their application.

A coating for a polymeric insulating material, includes 1 to 10 layers, each of the 1-10 layers having a coat thickness in a range from 0.1 to 100 μm and being wet-chemically produced from at least one precursor selected from the group consisting of silane, siloxane and silicate. The coating is silicatic and includes a silicatic base unit with organic radicals at a ratio so as to enable application of the coating onto flexible substrates.

The invention relates to a resin, particularly an epoxy resin, vinyl ester resin, cyanate ester resin or unsaturated polyester resin, or resin systems. Die Erfindung betrifft einen Verbundwerkstoff fur beispielsweise den Einsatz in Elektromotorentechnik, wobei hohe Warmeleitfahigkeit verbunden mit der grosen mechanischen Belastbarkeit von Faserverbundkunststoffen gefordert wird. Ein Verbundwerkstoff nach der Erfindung vereint die beiden Materialeigenschaften, weil er erste Bereiche mit polymerem Faserverbundkunststoff und zweite Bereiche mit gut warmeleitfahigem Material, insbesondere aus Metall, umfasst. Beispielsweise werden die beiden Bereiche als Schichten ausgebildet und der Verbundwerkstoff bildet ein Laminat.
