Understanding and predicting viscous, elastic, plastic flows
Ibrahim Cheddadi,Pierre Saramito,Benjamin Dollet,Benjamin Dollet,Christophe Raufaste,Christophe Raufaste,François Graner,François Graner +7 more
TL;DR: The approach opens the way to the realistic multi-dimensional prediction of complex flows encountered in geophysical, industrial and biological applications, and to the understanding of the link between structure and rheology of soft glassy systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Discrete rearranging disordered patterns, part I: Robust statistical tools in two or three dimensions
TL;DR: This work presents a coherent set of robust tools, in three steps, that enable to formulate elastic, plastic, fluid behaviours in a common, self-consistent modelling using continuous mechanics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rheology of aqueous foams
TL;DR: In this article, the multiscale features of aqueous foam flows, emphasizing regimes where intermediate length scales need to be taken into account or regimes fast enough regarding internal time scales so that the flow goes beyond the quasi-static limit.
Journal ArticleDOI
Yield drag in a two-dimensional foam flow around a circular obstacle: Effect of liquid fraction
TL;DR: The yield drag of the foam, that is, the force exerted on the obstacle by the foam flowing at very low velocity, is linear over a large range of the ratio of obstacle to bubble size, and is independent of the channel width over alarge range.
Journal ArticleDOI
Discrete rearranging disordered patterns, part II: 2D plasticity, elasticity and flow of a foam.
TL;DR: A phenomenological equation is suggested to predict the plastic strain rate of a foam: its orientation is determined from the foam's local elastic strain; and its rate is determinedFrom the foam’s local elongation rate, in good agreement with statistical measurements.
