Journal ArticleDOI

Skeletal muscle hypertrophy is mediated by a Ca2+-dependent calcineurin signalling pathway.

TL;DR: It is proposed that growth-factor-induced skeletal-muscle hypertrophy and changes in myofibre phenotype are mediated by calcium mobilization and are critically regulated by the calcineurin/NF-ATc1 signalling pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insulin-like growth factor (IGF-I) induces myotube hypertrophy associated with an increase in anaerobic glycolysis in a clonal skeletal-muscle cell model.

TL;DR: C2C12 cells were stably transfected with IGF-I and clonal lines developed and evaluated, indicating the development of hypertrophy rather than hyperplasia, and this quantitative model should be uniquely useful for elucidating the molecular mechanisms of skeletal-musclehypertrophy.
