How accurate are Stoney’s equation and recent modifications

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the Stoney's equation does not cause serious errors for thickness ratios up to δ⩽0.1, and that the correction factor is (1+γ δ 3)/(1+δ), where γ is the ratio of the biaxial moduli and δ is the proportion of the layer thicknesses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of CVD diamond

TL;DR: In this paper, the elastic constants of diamond are known with great accuracy, and it is a straightforward matter to derive exact numbers for E and v that take into consideration the stress direction and the intrinsic anisotropy as well as the crystalline configuration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical-point phonon frequencies of diamond.

TL;DR: The phonon-dispersion curves derived from neutron-scattering experiments performed on diamond are not accurate enough to yield the exact frequencies of critical-point (CP) phonons and, thus, to provide a satisfactory interpretation of second-order optical spectra.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characteristic strength, Weibull modulus, and failure probability of fused silica glass

TL;DR: In this article, a Weibull statistical analysis of the UDRI data was performed to evaluate the cumulative failure probability and the failure probability density of polished and superpolished fused SiO2 windows as a function of biaxial tensile stress, for stressed areas ranging from 0.3 to 100 cm2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anisotropy of Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio in diamond

TL;DR: In this paper, the elastic modulus of CVD diamond has been found to be 1143 GPa and v = 0.0691, which is quite compatible with available experimental evidence.
