Journal ArticleDOI
Estimates of genetic parameters for growth, reproductive, and carcass traits in Nelore cattle using the single step genomic BLUP procedure
Sabrina Kluska,Bianca Ferreira Olivieri,Martin Bonamy,Hermenegildo Lucas Justino Chiaia,Fabieli Loise Braga Feitosa,Mariana Piatto Berton,Elisa Peripolli,Marcos Vinícius Antunes de Lemos,Rafael Lara Tonussi,Raysildo Barbosa Lôbo,Cláudio de Ulhôa Magnabosco,Fernando A. Di Croce,Jason B. Osterstock,Angélica Simone Cravo Pereira,Danísio Prado Munari,Luiz Antonio Framartino Bezerra,Fernando Lopes,Fernando Baldi +17 more
TL;DR: The results of this study encourage the use of PPC in Nelore cattle since the selection for such trait would improve the productivity and longevity of the cows and increase the genetic gain for carcass grade.
Journal ArticleDOI
Growth performance, and carcass and meat quality traits in progeny of Poll Nellore, Angus and Brahman sires under tropical conditions
Angélica Simone Cravo Pereira,Fernando Baldi,Roberto Daniel Sainz,Bruno Lapo Utembergue,Hermenegildo Lucas Justino Chiaia,Cláudio de Ulhôa Magnabosco,F. Manicardi,F. R. C. Araujo,Camila de Freitas Guedes,Regina Célia Cardoso Margarido,Paulo Roberto Leme,Paulo José do Amaral Sobral +11 more
TL;DR: It is confirmed that Zebu cattle have inferior carcass and meat quality relative to AN crossbreds under tropical conditions, however there is substantial variation within the N breed for these traits, and several sires have a proportion of their progeny comparable in terms of meat tenderness to those of Angus sires.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autozygosity islands and ROH patterns in Nellore lineages: evidence of selection for functionally important traits
Elisa Peripolli,Julia Metzger,Marcos Vinícius Antunes de Lemos,Nedenia Bonvino Stafuzza,Sabrina Kluska,Bianca Ferreira Olivieri,Fabieli Louise Braga Feitosa,Mariana Piatto Berton,Fernando Lopes,Danísio Prado Munari,Raysildo Barbosa Lôbo,Cláudio de Ulhôa Magnabosco,Fernando A. Di Croce,Jason B. Osterstock,S.K. DeNise,Angélica Simone Cravo Pereira,Fernando Baldi +16 more
TL;DR: Low FPED-FROH correlation estimates indicate that FPED is not the most suitable method for capturing ancient inbreeding when the pedigree does not extend back many generations and FROH should be used instead.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure and genetic variability in Nellore (Bos indicus) cattle by pedigree analysis
Pedro Alejandro Vozzi,Cintia Righetti Marcondes,Cláudio de Ulhôa Magnabosco,Luiz Antonio Framartino Bezerra,Raysildo Barbosa Lôbo +4 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that genetic variability needs monitoring in order to avoid the compromise of genetic improvement in economically important traits in the breeding program.
Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare the estimativas of parâmetros geneticos obtidas em analises bayesianas uni-caracteristica and bi-caractersistica, em modelo animal linear e de limiar, considerando-se as caracteristicas categoricas morfologicas de bovinos da raca Nelore.
