TL;DR: The data indicate a dissociation of neuronal survival and dendritic integrity 6 weeks after short-term ischemia usually used for ischemic preconditioning, which is the most sensitive method to detect subtle dendrite changes compared to the classical dendedritic marker molecules MAP2 and MAP1B.

TL;DR: In this article, postischemic down-regulation of hippocampal CB1 receptors, specifically seen after short-term ischemia usually used for preconditioning, may participate in the mechanisms of endogenous post-ischemic neuroprotection, which can be prevented by "preconditioning" with a short ischemic stimulus of 2.5min duration.
