Augmenting Exercise Protocols with Interactive Virtual Reality Environments
Nathan Keller,Neil McHenry,Colton Duncan,Adam Johnston,Richard S. Whittle,Elise Koock,Sournav Sekhar Bhattacharya,Gabriel G. De la Torre,Lori L. Ploutz-Snyder,Melinda Sheffield-Moore,Greg Chamitoff,Ana Diaz-Artiles +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of a virtual reality intervention on spaceflight-validated exercise protocols using a prototype rowing ergometer designed to operate within the constraints of future long-duration exploration missions (LDEM) were examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Virtual Reality “exergames”: A promising countermeasure to improve motivation and restorative effects during long duration spaceflight missions
Nathan Keller,Richard S. Whittle,Neil McHenry,Adam P. W. Johnston,Colton Duncan,Lori L. Ploutz-Snyder,Gabriel G. De la Torre,Melinda Sheffield-Moore,Gregory Chamitoff,Ana Diaz-Artiles +9 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that a well-designed VR “exergaming” simulation with biometric feedback could be a beneficial addition to exercise prescriptions, especially if users are exposed to isolation and confinement.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Space Teams STEM Competition: Outcomes and Efficacy
TL;DR: In this paper , a study was conducted to gauge how greater engagement in the Space Teams competition affected students' understanding of the engineering design process, STEM identity and self-efficacy, interest in STEM, and overall understanding of importance of exploration.
