Guidelines for UK practice for the diagnosis and management of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections presenting in the community

TL;DR: These guidelines have been developed to provide general practitioners and other community- and hospital-based healthcare professionals with pragmatic advice about when to suspect MRSA infection in the community, when and what cultures should be performed and what should be the management options, including the need for hospitalization.
Journal ArticleDOI

The relationship between primary care antibiotic prescribing and bacterial resistance in adults in the community: a controlled observational study using individual patient data

TL;DR: Whether or not adults receive a prescription for any antibiotic during a 12 month period does not appear to influence the antimicrobial resistance of perineal flora and the temporal and dose-response relationships found may be suggestive of a causative association and should be the focus of further research.
Journal ArticleDOI

Listeria outbreak associated with sandwich consumption from a hospital retail shop, United Kingdom.

TL;DR: An outbreak of listeriosis occurred in the Swindon area of the UK in autumn 2003 and five cases were detected in pregnant women, one of whom was thought to have eaten prepacked sandwiches from a retail outlet in one particular hospital.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection and characterisation of bisegmented double‐stranded RNA viruses (picobirnaviruses) in human fecal specimens

TL;DR: Investigation of the prevalence of picobirnaviruses in human stools found that detection of PBVs by PAGE was three times more sensitive following RNA extraction by the GTC/ silica method.
