This study is devoted to investigate the inherent irreversibility and thermal stability in a reactive electrically conducting fluid flowing steadily through a channel with isothermal walls under the influence of a transversely imposed magnetic field. Using a perturbation method coupled with a special type of Hermite-Pade’ approximation technique, the simplified governing non-linear equation is solved and the important properties of overall flow structure including velocity field, temperature field and thermal criticality conditions are derived which essentially expedite to obtain expressions for volumetric entropy generation numbers, irreversibility distribution ratio and the Bejan number in the flow field.

On inherent irreversibility in a reactive hydromagnetic channel flow

In the present study, an analysis for steady hydromagnetic mixed convective generalised Couette flow between two infinite parallel plates of arbitrary electrical conductivities and finite thicknesses filled with a porous medium in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field in a rotating system with the Hall effect is presented. The heat transfer characteristics of the fluid flows are also investigated, taking viscous and Joule dissipations into account. Exact solutions of the resulting simultaneous ordinary differential equations governing the fluid flows are obtained in a closed form. The closed form analytical solutions for shear stress and mass flow rate are also obtained. To examine the physical consequences and flow characteristics, the numerical results for velocity, induced magnetic field, temperature field, shear stress, mass flow rate, and rate of heat transfer are computed for different values of various system parameters and are displayed in graphical and tabular forms. An interesting observation recorded that there arises flow reversal in the secondary flow direction when the permeability parameter is very small, i.e., when Darcian drag force is very large.

This paper considers the effect of induced magnetic field on transient hydromagnetic natural convection flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid in the presence of transverse magnetic field in a vertical channel formed by electrically non-conducting infinite vertical parallel plates due to symmetric heating of vertical parallel plates. The problem is solved using Laplace transform technique and the inversion of the Laplace domain to the time domain is obtained by Riemann-sum approximation method. In order to verify the accuracy of Riemann-sum approximation method, analytical solution for steady state mathematical model is obtained in closed form. The governing equations are also solved using an implicit finite difference method to confirm the method used in the present problem. Recent developments of heat and mass transfer in hydromagnetic flows

An analysis of the fully-developed MHD free convective flow between two vertical, electrically conducting plates has been carried out. The effects of the external circuit, heat sources and modified boundary conditions on the temperature at the non-perfect thermally conducting plates have been studied. The nonlinear integro-differential equations, governing the flow, have been solved by perturbation method. Velocity and temperature profiles have been shown on graphs and the numerical values of other quantities are entered in tables. It is observed that the flow is stable at small values ofM, the Hartmann number, whereas at large values ofM, an increase inΦ
1 (the thermal conductance ratio) or λ (line heat source) leads to an instability of the flow. However, instability of the flow may be avoided by selecting the plates of high electrical conductivity.
