Journal ArticleDOI

The mechanical damping of iron from room temperature to 400°c at 7 megacycles/sec

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the pulse-echo method to measure the Snoek damping peaks of nitrogen and carbon in α-iron at 6.65 Mc/sec.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cold-work internal friction peak in iron

TL;DR: In this article, the saturation effect reported by Koster was used to estimate the number of N atoms per atomic length of dislocation that contribute to the damping peak, and the free energy expression governing the distribution of n atoms between lattice and dislocation sites has been found to be of the form: ΔG = −0.47 −2.6 × 10−4T eV.
Journal ArticleDOI

Amplitude-dependent internal friction and induced modulus defect in purified iron☆

TL;DR: The amplitude-dependent internal friction and associated modulus defect of pure iron were observed at 32 kHz between 77°K and 300°K in a search for features associated with dislocation motion as discussed by the authors.
