Heat Treatment Optimization Studies on PIT ${\rm Nb}_{3}{\rm Sn}$ Strand for the NED Project
TL;DR: In this paper, a powder-in-tube (PIT) strand was successfully developed for the Next European Dipole (NED) program, and extensive heat treatment optimization studies were performed to maximize both critical current and RRR, with a plateau temperature down to 625degC and duration up to 400 hours.
Journal ArticleDOI
Status of the Next European Dipole (NED) activity of the Collaborated Accelerator Research in Europe (CARE) project
A. Devred,Bertrand Baudouy,D.E. Baynham,T. Boutboul,S. Canfer,Maciej Chorowski,P. Fabbricatore,S. Farinon,H. Felice,Paolo Fessia,J. Fydrych,M. Greco,J. Greenhalgh,D. Leroy,P. Loverige,F. Michel,L. Oberli,A. den Ouden,D. Pedrini,J. Polinski,V. Previtali,L. Quettier,J.M. Rifflet,J. Rochford,F. Rondeaux,S. Sanz,Stefano Sgobba,Massimo Sorbi,F. Toral-Fernandez,R. van Weelderen,P. Vedrine,O. Vincent-Viry,G. Volpini +32 more
TL;DR: The Next European Dipole (NED) activity as discussed by the authors was launched on January 1st, 2004 to promote the development of high-performance, Nb/sub 3/Sn wires in collaboration with European industry.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: CERN and INFN, Italy, have signed an agreement for RD the fringe field analysis; the magnet powering and quench protection; mechanical and construction main choices as mentioned in this paper, which is the first agreement between the two organizations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of the Superferric Sextupole Corrector Magnet for the LHC Luminosity Upgrade
G. Volpini,F. Alessandria,Giorgio Bellomo,F. Broggi,Antonio Paccalini,D. Pedrini,Augusto Leone,Vittorio Marinozzi,Mauro Quadrio,Massimo Sorbi,M. Statera,Maurizio Todero,Carlo Uva,Paolo Fessia,Andrea Musso,Ezio Todesco,Fernando Toral +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the main features of the corrector magnet are reviewed, from the development of suitable solutions for the winding and impregnation to the quality assessment on the series coils, including the results of the first cryogenic tests on a single coil.
Journal ArticleDOI
Construction and Cold Test of the First Superferric Corrector Magnet for the LHC Luminosity Upgrade
