Journal ArticleDOI
Antimicrobial and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Endophytic Fungi Talaromyces wortmannii Extracts against Acne-Inducing Bacteria
Alexander Pretsch,Michael Nagl,Katja Schwendinger,Birgit Kreiseder,Martina Wiederstein,Dagmar Pretsch,Miroslav Genov,Ralph Hollaus,Daniela Zinssmeister,Abdesamad Debbab,Harald Hundsberger,Andreas Eger,Peter Proksch,Christoph Wiesner +13 more
TL;DR: Compound C has effective antimicrobial activity against P. acnes and anti-inflammatory activity, and it is suggested that this substance or the crude extract from T. wortmannii are alternative treatments for antibiotic/anti-inflammatory therapy for acne vulgaris.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tetrahydroanthraquinone Derivative (±)-4-Deoxyaustrocortilutein Induces Cell Cycle Arrest and Apoptosis in Melanoma Cells via Upregulation of p21 and p53 and Downregulation of NF-kappaB.
Miroslav Genov,Birgit Kreiseder,Michael Nagl,Elisabeth Drucker,Martina Wiederstein,Barbara Muellauer,Julia Krebs,Teresa Grohmann,Dagmar Pretsch,Karl Baumann,Markus Bacher,Alexander Pretsch,Christoph Wiesner +12 more
TL;DR: 4-DACL treatment induced mitochondrial ROS, reduced NF-κB signaling activity and increased up-regulation of the cell cycle inhibitors cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21 and the tumor suppressor protein p53 in a dose-dependent manner, which was accompanied by decreased cell proliferation and apoptosis via the intrinsic pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI
A robust and miniaturized screening platform to study natural products affecting metabolism and survival in Caenorhabditis elegans
Julia Zwirchmayr,Benjamin Kirchweger,Theresa Lehner,Ammar Tahir,Dagmar Pretsch,Judith M. Rollinger +5 more
TL;DR: A phenotype-directed in vivo approach opens up new horizons for the selection of natural starting materials and the investigation of their active principles as fast drug discovery tool with predictive value for human diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functionalised bicyclic tetramates derived from cysteine as antibacterial agents
Tharindi D. Panduwawala,Sarosh Iqbal,Amber L. Thompson,Miroslav Genov,Alexander Pretsch,Dagmar Pretsch,Shuang Liu,Richard H. Ebright,Alison J. Howells,Anthony Maxwell,Mark G. Moloney +10 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates that biologically active 3D libraries are readily available by manipulation of a tetramate skeleton, and shows high antibacterial activity coupled with modest gyrase/polymerase activity in two cases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prolongation of metallothionein induction combats Aß and α-synuclein toxicity in aged transgenic Caenorhabditis elegans.
Dagmar Pretsch,Judith M. Rollinger,Axel Schmid,Miroslav Genov,Teresa Wöhrer,Liselotte Krenn,Mark G. Moloney,Ameya Kasture,Thomas Hummel,Alexander Pretsch +9 more
TL;DR: Metallothionein (MT), an endogenous metal detoxifying protein, is increased in young amyloid ß (Aß) expressing Caenorhabditis elegans, whereas it is not in wild type strains, indicating the age dependency of disease outbreak, and sharing intriguing parallels to diminished MT levels in human brains of AD.
