Antitumor Effect and Potentiation of Cytotoxic Drugs Activity in Human Cancer Cells by ZD-1839 (Iressa), an Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor-selective Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor
Fortunato Ciardiello,Rosa Caputo,Roberto Bianco,Damiano,G Pomatico,De Placido S,Ar Bianco,Giampaolo Tortora +7 more
TL;DR: The antitumor effect of this EGFR-selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor ZD-1839 is demonstrated and a rationale for its clinical evaluation in combination with cytotoxic drugs is provided.

Journal Article
Antitumor activity of ZD6126, a novel vascular-targeting agent, is enhanced when combined with ZD1839, an epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and potentiates the effects of radiation in a human non-small cell lung cancer xenograft model
David Raben,Cesar A. Bianco,Damiano,Roberto Bianco,Davide Melisi,C. Mignogna,Fp Darmiento,Luca Cionini,Ar Bianco,Giampaolo Tortora,Fortunato Ciardiello,Paul A. Bunn +11 more
TL;DR: This first report shows that a selective vascular-targeting agent (D6126) + an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor agent (ZD1839) and radiation have additive in vivo effects in a human cancer model, and induces the greatest effects on tumor growth and angiogenesis.
Journal Article
Combined blockade of protein kinase A and bcl-2 by antisense strategy induces apoptosis and inhibits tumor growth and angiogenesis.
Giampaolo Tortora,Rosa Caputo,Damiano,Roberto Bianco,Gabriella Fontanini,S Cuccato,S. De Placido,Ar Bianco,Fortunato Ciardiello +8 more
TL;DR: The results of this study imply an interaction between the PKA and bcl-2 signaling pathways and, because both antisenses have now entered Phase II trials, provide the rationale to translate this novel therapeutic strategy in a clinical setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
