Peter D. Friedmann,Randall Hoskinson,Randall Hoskinson,Randall Hoskinson,Michael S. Gordon,Robert P. Schwartz,Timothy W. Kinlock,Kevin Knight,Patrick M. Flynn,Wayne N. Welsh,Wayne N. Welsh,Lynda A. R. Stein,Lynda A. R. Stein,Lynda A. R. Stein,Stanley Sacks,Daniel J. O'Connell,Hannah K. Knudsen,Michael S. Shafer,Elizabeth Hall,Linda K. Frisman +19 more
TL;DR: Addressing inadequate knowledge and negative attitudes about MAT may increase its adoption, but better linkages to community pharmacotherapy during the reentry period might overcome other issues, including security, liability, staffing, and regulatory concerns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incarceration and inmates’ self perceptions about returning home
TL;DR: For example, this paper found that family support, having children, and in-prison substance abuse treatment increase optimism, while negative family influences (incarceration or drug use of family members), longer incarceration times, and a history of serious drug use reduce optimism about life after incarceration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sexual Minority Youth Victimization and Social Support: The Intersection of Sexuality, Gender, Race, and Victimization
TL;DR: Examination of data from three years of statewide data from heterosexual and sexual minority adolescents in grades 9–12 indicates that sexual minority youth are at increased risk for victimization, substance use, suicidality, and social isolation compared to their heterosexual counterparts and that there is very little bivariate difference within the sexual minority community.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differences in Prevalence of Prescription Opiate Misuse Among Rural and Urban Probationers
Jennifer R. Havens,Carrie B. Oser,Carl G. Leukefeld,J. Matthew Webster,Steven S. Martin,Daniel J. O'Connell,Hilary L. Surratt,James A. Inciardi +7 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of prescription opiate misuse was significantly higher among the rural probationers; however, given the paucity of illicit opiates and relatively recent emergence of prescriptions in rural areas, rural substance abuse treatment may be ill-prepared to treat prescription opiates misuse.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Impact of Intimate Partner Violence on Women’s Condom Negotiation Efficacy
Holly Swan,Daniel J. O'Connell +1 more
TL;DR: Results show that IPV experiences among women significantly decreases their confidence in negotiating condom use with a partner, putting them at a higher risk of HIV infection than women who do not report having recently experienced IPV.
