Journal ArticleDOI

Deletion of Inositol-Requiring Enzyme-1α in Podocytes Disrupts Glomerular Capillary Integrity and Autophagy

TL;DR: IRE1α is essential for maintaining podocyte and glomerular integrity as mice age and in glomerulonephritis and the mechanism is related, at least in part, to the maintenance of autophagy in podocytes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic Ablation of Calcium-independent Phospholipase A2γ Induces Glomerular Injury in Mice.

TL;DR: It is shown that deletion of iPLA2γ did not cause detectable albuminuria; however, it resulted in mitochondrial structural abnormalities and enhanced autophagy in podocytes as well as loss of podocytes in aging KO mice, demonstrating a protective functional role in the normal glomerulus and in glomerulonephritis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Proteostasis as a therapeutic target in glomerular injury associated with mutant α-actinin-4.

TL;DR: Treatment of mice with 4-PBA in the drinking water over a 10-wk period significantly reduced albuminuria and ER stress and chemical chaperones may represent a novel therapeutic approach to certain hereditary glomerular diseases.
