Social Network Analysis

Management of the enterprise architecture has become increasingly recognized as a crucial part of both business and IT management. Still, a common understanding and methodological consistency seems far from being developed. Acknowledging the significant role of research in moving the development process along, this article employs different bibliometric methods, complemented by an extensive qualitative interpretation of the research field, to provide a unique overview of the enterprise architecture literature. After answering our research questions about the collaboration via co-authorships, the intellectual structure of the research field and its most influential works, and the principal themes of research, we propose an agenda for future research based on the findings from the above analyses and their comparison to empirical insights from the literature. In particular, our study finds a considerable degree of co-authorship clustering and a positive impact of the extent of co-authorship on the diffusion of works on enterprise architecture. In addition, this article identifies three major research streams and shows that research to date has revolved around specific themes, while some of high practical relevance receive minor attention. Hence, the contribution of our study is manifold and offers support for researchers and practitioners alike.

An Exploration of Enterprise Architecture Research

– The purpose of this paper is to consolidate existing knowledge and provide a deeper understanding of the use of social media (SM) data for predictions in various areas, such as disease outbreaks, product sales, stock market volatility and elections outcome predictions. , – The scientific literature was systematically reviewed to identify relevant empirical studies. These studies were analysed and synthesized in the form of a proposed conceptual framework, which was thereafter applied to further analyse this literature, hence gaining new insights into the field. , – The proposed framework reveals that all relevant studies can be decomposed into a small number of steps, and different approaches can be followed in each step. The application of the framework resulted in interesting findings. For example, most studies support SM predictive power, however, more than one-third of these studies infer predictive power without employing predictive analytics. In addition, analysis suggests that there is a clear need for more advanced sentiment analysis methods as well as methods for identifying search terms for collection and filtering of raw SM data. , – The proposed framework enables researchers to classify and evaluate existing studies, to design scientifically rigorous new studies and to identify the field's weaknesses, hence proposing future research directions.

A considerable number of organizations continually face difficulties bringing strategy to execution, and suffer from a lack of structure and transparency in corporate strategic management. Yet, enterprise architecture as a fundamental exercise to achieve a structured description of the enterprise and its relationships appears far from being adopted in the strategic management arena. To move the adoption process along, this paper develops a comprehensive business architecture framework that assimilates and extends prior research and applies the framework to selected scenarios in corporate strategic management. This paper also presents the approach in practice, based on a qualitative appraisal of interviews with strategic directors across different industries. With its integrated conceptual guideline for using enterprise architecture to facilitate corporate strategic management and the insights gained from the interviews, this paper not only delves more deeply into the research but also offers advice for both researchers and practitioners.

Enterprise architecture management and its role in corporate strategic management

This paper introduces a new Web mining approach that combines social network analysis and automatic sentiment analysis. We show how weighting the forum posts of the contributors according to their network position allow us to predict trends and real world events in the movie business. To test our approach we conducted two experiments analyzing online forum discussions on the Internet movie database (IMDb) by examining the correlation of the social network structure with external metrics such as box office revenue and Oscar Awards. We find that discussion patterns on IMDb predict Academy Awards nominations and box office success. Two months before the Oscars were given we were able to correctly predict nine Oscar nominations. We also found that forum contributions correlated with box office success of 20 top grossing movies of 2006.

Application Portfolio Management—An Integrated Framework and a Software Tool Evaluation Approach

Enterprise architecture management (EAM) is expected to contribute to, e.g., strategic planning and business-IT-alignment by capturing the essential structures of an enterprise. Enterprise architecture principles (EAPs) are among the subjects in EAM research that have received increasing attention during the last years, but still are not fully covered regarding their characteristics and their development and use in practice. The aim of this paper is to contribute to the EAM field by investigating the nature of EAPs and by proposing and validating a development process for EAPs. The main contributions of the paper are (a) an analysis of the characteristics of EAPs, (b) an initial development process for EAPs, and (c) the results of expert interviews for validating this process.
