Journal ArticleDOI

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) dependence, withdrawal symptoms and craving in regular users.

TL;DR: The findings from this study show that regular Kratom use is associated with drug dependency, development of withdrawal symptoms, and craving that become more severe with prolonged use and suggest a stronger control of the drug.
Journal ArticleDOI

Traditional and non-traditional uses of Mitragynine (Kratom): A survey of the literature

TL;DR: Despite its addictive properties, reported side-effects and its tendency to be used a recreational drug, more scientific clinical human studies are necessary to determine its potential therapeutic value.
Journal ArticleDOI

Social Functioning of Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) Users in Malaysia

Journal ArticleDOI

Kratom policy: The challenge of balancing therapeutic potential with public safety

TL;DR: User reports and results of preclinical studies in animals strongly suggest that kratom and its main constituent alkaloid, mitragynine may have useful activity in alleviating pain and managing symptoms of opioid withdrawal, even though well-controlled clinical trials have yet to be done.
